If we were truly socialists throughout our history the world would not have experienced 1/10th of our ingenuity. Einstein would be stuck packing bullets instead of making atomic bombs. Bill Gates would be a lowly paid COBOL programmer instead of being free to repackage DOS and create the largest software company in the world.

None of that would have been possible without America embracing Socialism. Back when things were purely capitalist, they sucked... severely.

I guess what I mean to say is pure socialism does not allow opportunity for worker bees to rise to the level of drones. I hate to go back to the East vs. West Germany thing after World War II, but the capitalist Germany saw rapid growth and became the 3rd largest world economy, whereas the socialist Germany collapsed shortly before the USSR. It's just the clearest cut example of how socialism simply does not work as well as capitalism, it it even does at all. I gave the example of Bill Gates being a COBOL programmer, he'd be lucky if the state even gave him a decent job relevant to his interests. There's no money in that system for you to be a Harvard dropout goofing around until you discover something cool.
