Default Brute hides in Frontier mountains

Me and my buddy have been killing 'a gorging brute' and 'a ravenous brute's in Frontier Mountains today in the hope of collecting Brute Hides and High Quality Brute Hides for his cultural tailoring.

I reckon we killed 30+ brutes, if not far more, and we didn't have any of either drop (we were there for two hours killing almost exclusively brutes).

Magelo lists the drop rates as 10 and 5 per cent for the regular/HQ hides. Assuming the drop rates haven't been changed since classic times it seems me and my friend were either rather unlucky or these mobs are missing these items from their loot table.

The only other explanation I can think of is perhaps the drops here are rarer than live; is there any reason for this?

Interesting. I guess this raises the question of whether the drop rate is correct.

Magelo suggests 1/10 and 1/20 drop rates; is there any evidence that the drop rate was ever significantly lower on live? I'm struggling to find anything to suggest it.

Heya Jam

The Drop seem low here artificially due to kunark zone pathing being fubard.

Frontier mountains live had a safe area roughly square shape in middle of zone( mobs would not path into these rouglhly square are unless pulled their). This is where folks could setup and pull mob to their heart content. in particular druids and other kitting classes could be totally safely in these spot and pull all day. so you had lot of folks who would hunt in this safe spots thus generating brute hides more. also the melee bind point had no mob pathing through it on live another popular spot to pull too .

HERE on p1999 their is no such safe spot only walls and zone line and to some extent certain sections of giant fort are safe. combined with lower population and less folks hunting in frontier mountains ends up with lower generation of available brute hides.

Trying to farm them on your own is going to take forever. you can possibly find them on the windmill merchant in lake of ill omen if you dumpster dive but most folks don't bother selling them since they don't stack and take full spot in back pack like all skins.

ps I leveled a lot in this safe area on live starting from release of kunark.

pps other zones In kunark had these type of safe areas ( bunring woods, frontier mouantians, trakanon teeth , skyfire)

Well we went back last night and we had a few regular brute hides drop. We're yet to find a HQ though.

If we go back I'll try to remember to log how many brutes we kill and how many hide drops that yields.

I appreciate it'll is harder to kill as many on this server but the drop:not ratio should be the same.
