Shaman gear 20k budget

Hi,

Im starting a fresh shaman on the green server and have about 20k to spend. What gear should I get? Also what should I aim for as I progress?

Ikky chestplate, poison wind censer, silver chitin hand wraps, 6/65 rings, shrunken goblin skull earring. I'd save the leftover for JBB, selling whatever you need to in order to afford it when you hit 45.

Pretty good starting list, I would prioritize a fungi staff over JBB, in my experience the JBB is way overrated when you have solid other gear as a manaless nuke isn't that relevant when you have limitless mana and the DoTs give way more damage in a very mana efficient way.

Also make sure you grab a copy of Canni II when you can use it. 85% of your casts will be canni/fungi staff/canni/fungi staff

Fungi Staff clicks at 35, get one.
JBB clicks at 45, get one.
Get an epic ASAP if you solo or fungi tunic if you group more. (Ideally both)
Sell the fungi tunic and staff if you hit 60 and want torp but don’t have extra plat.

Idk what the ratio for plat to amphetamines is but you'll wanna find a good deal if you plan to stay awake playing shaman

Prioritize JBB over Fungi Staff if you can only pick one. Otherwise get both.

Fungi Staff translates to 1200 mana per hour, or FT2. 8 Clicks of JBB has already given you 1200 mana's worth of DD spells. Obviously you can click JBB more than 8 times per hour, which translates into more mana saving.

JBB spam is more efficient than root/rotting from 45-60 if you can't afford your Epic. Ensure you have enough money for Torpor before deciding to buy an Epic for leveling. It is better to be a level 60 Shaman with Torpor and no Epic, than a level 60 Shaman with Epic and no Torpor.

As others have said, items like JBB, Fungi Tunic, and Fungi Staff can be sold for Torpor money when you hit 60.

Criteria
1. Two Level 60 Shamans without Torpor. One is an Iksar root/rotting, the other is an Ogre with JBB.
2. Mob does 14.8 DPS while slowed with Togor's Insects.
3. 8750 HP mob, Eldak Howlingbear and Mentrax Mountainbone from FM Mountains.
4. Both Shamans have Fungi Tunic.
5. Both Shamans have Regrowth on themselves, and Haste on their Pets.
6. Regrowth has an upkeep of 1.94 mana per tick on Ogres and 1.95 mana per tick on Iksars over an hour.
7. Celerity has an upkeep of 1.25 mana per tick on Ogres and 1.26 mana per tick on Iksars over an hour.
8. Mortal Deftness has an upkeep of 0.26 mana per tick on Ogres over an hour. The Iksar is not using this spell.

- 884 HP recovered from Standing Regen (4 HP) + Fungi Tunic (15 HP) + Regrowth (15 HP) over 26 ticks
- 26 Mana recovered from Standing Regen (1 Mana) over 26 ticks

Total HP Spent: 882
Total Mana Spent: 458
Total Fight Time: 157 seconds
Total Meditation Time after combat: 143 seconds total. It takes that much time to meditate back the 458 mana and recover the 882 HP via sitting.

300 seconds per encounter. This assumes the Ogre gets zero resists, zero interrupts, and zero fizzles.

Iksar without JBB using root/rotting
- 3x Envenomed Bolt (3834 Damage) + 1x Plague (1270 Damage) + Hasted and Regened Pet (17 DPS)
- 960 Mana spent on 3x Envenomed Bolts
- 300 Mana spent on 1x Plague
- 158 Mana spent on 1x Togor's Insects after specialization
- 27 Mana spent on 1x Root after specialization
- 450 Mana spent on 2x Superior Healing after specialization
- 93 Mana spent on upkeep
- 61 Mana spent on 1x extra Regrowth upkeep
- 120 Mana and 36 HP spent due to losing 6 Sitting Regen ticks while casting the 6 spells above
- 35 HP spent on upkeep
- 1680 HP recovered from Sitting Regen (18 HP) + Fungi Tunic (15 HP) + Regrowth (15 HP) over 35 ticks
- 735 Mana recovered from Sitting Regen (21 Mana) over 35 ticks
- 426 damage taken to pet (3167 damage at 14.8 DPS - 1575 regenerated from 45 HP a tick) = 1592 - (583 x 2)
- 1628 HP Spent on Cannibalize 4
- 902 Mana recovered from Cannibalize 4

Total HP Spent: 19
Total Mana Spent: 532
Total Fight Time: 214 seconds
Total Recovery Time: 86 seconds total. You are down -19 HP and -532 Mana. Your pet is down -426 HP. In 60 seconds you can recover 446 Mana via 3x Cannibalize 4 and meditate at the cost of 444 HP. 430 HP would be recovered by Sitting Regen. 24 second recovery time to meditate back the last 86 Mana and 32 HP. Pet will have recovered the 426 HP after the first minute.

298 seconds per encounter. This is assuming the Iksar get zero resists, zero root breaks, zero fizzles, zero interrupts, miss zero server ticks when meditating in combat, and the Shaman takes zero damage.

Conclusion:
Here is why JBB + Blight, hammer of the Scourge is better for leveling from 45-60:

1. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge is the same as root/rotting when looking at total fight + recovery time on one of the hardest fights you can use to gain XP on while leveling. This fight can take you to 60, which means you can use JBB from 45-60 efficiently. Remember I am also comparing an Ogre to an Iksar. The Iksar has Racial Regeneration, which means their recovery time is a bit faster. If you were comparing an Ogre to an Ogre, JBB would be a bit faster time-wise.

2. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge doesn't need to worry about DoT Resists, which are costly mana-wise. A resisted JBB cast only costs 8 seconds. A DoT resist costs 300 mana, which can take longer to recover. Due to the mob being slowed, interrupts are rare.

3. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge worries less about root breaks. Root isn't needed for the kill, and is only used to root adds off to the side. In the example provided above, no adds need to be rooted. In practice the Root/Rotting Shaman will get occasional resists and early breaks, which means they are going to be spending some extra mana and taking some extra damage, which wasn't part of the calculations above.

4. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge casts significantly less spells that can fizzle, and therefore you save fizzle mana.

5. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge doesn't need to worry about missing server ticks for meditate and sitting regen.

6. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge playstyle is simpler, and therefore there are less chances for you to mess something up and set yourself back during long play sessions.

7. JBB + Blight, Hammer of the Scourge kills the mob 57 seconds faster in this scenario. This means you can switch to a new target faster if you take less than average damage in a specific encounter. the Root/Rooting Shaman has less options to shorten kill time, as their damage is based on DoT's, which have a fixed time to run their course. You could spend more mana, but then you'd need to spend more time recovering.
