Im a bit a of a newb at all this type stuff and usually run into a few problems atleast. Using Windows 7 when i got to rerout the Eqhost it asks me to save it? Yes. Overwrite? Yes. Then i get an access denied pop-up. Stuff like this makes me crazy. Anyways thanks in advance for the help!

You're most likely not an administrator on your computer. Either become one and make sure you have access to your EverQuest directory, or open notepad as administrator, browse to the file and then edit it.

I had this problem, too. At first I suspected it was because I have separate user and admin accounts on my machine, but I'm beginning to think that Microsoft just screwed the pooch on file permissions.

To change the server login, I changed the original eqhost.txt to eqhost.txt.orig or something and opened notepad as an administrator. I then pasted the text to change the login server and saved the file as eqhost.txt.

To change the spells_us and other files, extract them to a directory on your desktop then move them over to the appropriate directories. Windows should prompt you for admin access before doing it, but it shouldn't deny you access afterwards.

I didn't have any problems like this when I followed the instructions in the "Getting Started" post. From what you're saying it sounds like you might be trying to connect to the wrong server or maybe you allowed the client to patch when you ran it; however, I'm not particularly good at troubleshooting these kinds of things if the following the instructions doesn't work.

What does your eqhost.txt file look like and what is the target for the shortcut that you use to launch the game?
