Game Mechanics: Crits and Crippling Blows?

Prior to the recent patch I was playing a pre-20s Dwarven Warrior who was routinely getting both crits and (when berzerk) crippling blows. Naturally it did wonders for my damage efforts and helped get me out of some tough spots.

After the recent patch I made a switch to a Barbarian Warrior due to the innate Slam/Bash skill which my Dwarf could not perform without a shield. However, despite routinely falling into the berzerk state I cannot recall at any point in time landing a crippling blow as a Barbarian Warrior. In fact, I cannot even recall if/when I last landed a simple Crit.

Are crits and crippling blows broken? Is it due to the recent patch? Is it broken only for Barbs? These are all things I would absolutely love to know because it effects my current class/race choice greatly at the moment.
