You don't have to wear a skid suit going to the store. You're right. But you'd be a moron not to wear at least a riding jacket and good shoes with heavier pants. Statistically most motorcycle accidents happen on rides where people go less than a few miles. And it's not always the riders fault for getting in an accident, wearing more gear makes you more visible to the people around you. I've seen people get on bikes and crash at the end of their block when they we're "just going to the store." Granted they were not the brightest crayon in the box but neither are the people driving around cars.

You wouldn't be a retard to spend money on a jacket. You CAN spend less, hell, you can buy a textile jacket for $75. But have fun replacing it anytime/every time it gets even the smallest tear in it.

I spent $300 on my jacket and I will most likely never have to replace it. If I get in an accident bad enough where I would have to replace it, I'll most likely be dead or never riding again. I enjoy the fact that I feel protected when I get on my bike.

I hear it's especially enjoyable when the hospital has to pull chunks of asphalt ground leather out of what's left of your skin. Enjoy your cheap jacket lmao.

you completely missed the point. i have both a leather riding padded jacket and a textile, point was to buy the jacket at the right place so you're paying for the product rather than markup (which sound like what you paid).

the jacket i have was marked down from $350 to clear inventory and i got it for $119, so does that make it a $350 jacket or a cheap $119 one? ... maybe i should have bought your $300 jacket for $89.99 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Link to the jacket i have

so the point is: you do not need to "spend" that kind of money (read: retail) to get the right gear.

of course some people will always feel inadequate if they don't overspend/overkill/over-do things [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
