Low population - camps are generally open
Community - as toxic as red is, it’s nowhere near as toxic as blue or green.
PvP - this isn’t as much as hunting others down or being hunted down. It just adds an extra level of risk. Without risk you don’t have rewards. Small rewards feel much more grand when you navigate through more risk. It’s why we play classic eq over live. The risk of losing exp, corpse, etc is what makes this game much more enticing. And pvp adds that extra level of risk.

Seriously it cant be said enough. The toxicity IN GAME seems almost non existent... It's these forum personalities that do a number on folks interested.. So many of the folks currently on and having a good time have come from one of the PVE servers..
Blah blah blah, just join sanctuary and you'll feel right at home here if you're a Blue/Green player... Warm up to the PVP part at your own pace.
And don't forget global /ooc.. It's a huge huge plus.. I can spend 3 hours in Dreadlands on blue and not hear from a single soul.. But at least on red, there is chatter no matter how empty the zone you're in is.. And the low pop kinda makes me feel closer to the community to be honest.. I recognize so many names everyday i login.
