^^^ pretty much. Who says humans were the first to roam the solar system??? We have plenty time in which for this to happen from either planet.

Though I think unless something else happened to boil off or drastically decrease earths atmosphere. I don't think we'd reach mars levels of aridity. We might be able to get a runaway greenhouse affect that boils the oceans into the atmosphere though and get very Venus like.

Even a weak magnetic field wouldn't kill the earth completely. IMO. Hard to say.
