I never defended a person who gambled their life savings away. But you can't really call his family victims without completely destroying the meaning of the word "victim". If anyone is a victim simply because they weren't given as much by others as they could/should have been, then pretty much every single person is a victim. I completely disagree ofcourse. It's not just about who has and who doesn't have. In this instance, this man (or woman) has lied, defiled trust and possibly taken money from his partner, food out of the mouths of his children, threatened the security and well-being of his family due to (insert any number of vices here) To say that his family has not been victimized would be in error.
