Shaman DoT's
I'm playing a shaman right now that just hit level 24. I was disappointed to see that the high damage output of the level 24 poison DoT was not classic, and it actually hits for only 27/tick. Affliction, which is almost half the mana cost, hits for 25/tick and lasts twice as long.
My question for other Shaman out there is this: what purpose do these poison DoT's really serve? Do the get better at higher levels? Just to reiterate: Affliction - lvl 19 - 30dd + 25/tick*14 ticks = 380 damage for 59 mana Envenomed Breath - lvl 24 - 30dd + 27/tick*7 ticks = 219 for 100 mana Thanks all. |

Your disease line of DoTs will always be more mana efficient, but the poison DoTs are also very useful. The poison line dots have a short timer, 42 seconds, making them very useful for short fights (or fights that you intend on keeping short), where 1 ebolt, or 1 ebolt and a VotS are enough. As you level higher the mana efficiency of your spells increases, and as does your mana return thru cannibalize due to the better regen spells, so the mana hit on a poison dot won't seem as bad. Also, keep in mind that the faster the mob dies the faster you can pull the next one :P |
poison dots are faster, disease dots are better but much slower. they get much better as you lvl up. at 50 you get E-bolt its awesome i wish i had it right now =/

I noticed sicken is doing scaling damage from 3 to 5 instead of 2 per tick. It's rather unfortunate if affliction is at the 2005 damage level here too. |

Overall, I have noticed today that casting affliction + env. breath takes down most things my level, and even though the poisen DoT is not nearly as efficient I do make up the mana by having more time to med since the kiting time got cut in half. Thanks all! |
yeah affliction is way overpowered rightnow , it should be doing only 6 per tick
