Chaplain John McTernan says Hurricane Sandy is God’s way of punishing America for supporting the “homosexual agenda.” According to the Christian leader, because of “the gays,” God is “systematically destroying America right before our eyes.”

Hasbin just a hater, don't mind him.
Pretty much I'm hearing that you don't like SRV because he doesn't play Jimi as well as Jimi. Saying his music is pre-packaged cookie cutter pop or whatever just demonstrates your blind ignorance of the subject. Have you even listened to any SRV that wasn't a Hendrix cover? I personally get a little tired of the whole "texas twang" thing at times, but his prowess on the guitar is undeniable and ridiculous. Yeah Jimi was a fucking monster on the guitar and eons ahead of his time, but he is without a doubt one of the douchiest singers and lyricists of all time. I'd listen to him quite a bit more if he would just shut the fuck up. Everyone knows that Machine Gun is the best Jimi track, anyways. You can keep your bowl of voodoo chili, brah.

Clapton has been playing that same Little Wing cover for 40 years - Derek and the Dominos beeyotch. Duane Allman was another god cut down in his prime, but he doesn't have quite the popular following of some of these other jerks. Clapton just doesn't get my dick hard these days though - somebody give that guy some drugs so he can stop playing fucking suburban whiteboy blues.
My love of the electric guitar really began with David Gilmour and Warren Haynes, and like you, Alawen, I play a strat too! Check out these recordings I made a few years ago when I'd been playing for like two years, lol: http://www.myspace.com/theicecrewboys
My all-time favorite guitarist at this point (and for the last two years, almost) has been Shawn Lane. Youtube can't really do him justice - check out his albums, in particular Abstract Logic, Two Doors (he only played the first half of the album), Temporal Analogues of Paradise, and Time is the Enemy. I invite you to download my favorite, TAOP, at this link: http://www.msu.edu/~oconne53/TempAnalogues.zip. The guitar solo a couple minutes into the second movement is my favorite solo of all time. For someone who usually likes chunky distortion and fast playing, this selection is a departure from my usual. It is without a doubt the most heartfelt and touching piece of music I have ever heard in my life - give it a chance. Shawn Lane is probably the sickest shredder of all time, yet he gives us music with such amazing depth, not to mention he could play Hendrix covers spot-on as a teenager.

Should define terms better for this conversation.
I propose using at least "skill" and "style" to differentiate "good" or "better."
For instance, Steve Vai is "good" and "better than 99.999999% of guitarists ever, including everyone mentioned so far" as far as skill goes, but his style leaves something to be desired.
Hasbinlulz
10-31-2012, 03:26 PM
What I will say is that p. much everyone mentioned so far crosses the skill/style fence as far as being good..
Except SRV. His skill was high, but his style was 100% biter status.
Hasbinlulz
10-31-2012, 03:26 PM

This is probably the "best" guitarist alive IMHO, skill and style.
John Williams performing Asturias (Leyenda), by Albeniz - a song popularized by Andres Segovia and later by The Doors.
This is him in 1975, much more of a primal performance.

Have you even listened to any SRV that wasn't a Hendrix cover?
Of course I have, but I was trying to draw a comparison between the two, and the best way to compare two styles is to isolate as many variables as possible. A great way of doing that when comparing musicians is to select a song they have in common. Which is why I chose Little Wing and Voodoo Chile (Slight Return).
SRV was out to prove that "not only Jimi could play like Jimi," and he certainly did that, I am absolutely not questioning his skill, but he is certainly a two bit hack as far as his style goes. Fucking 12 bar blues with a Jimi twist? Give me a fucking break. Even Hendrix himself got down on better blues than that.

Not trying to argue subjectivity are you? Django dude sounds good. Bobby Blue Bland fan by chance? Basis of my opinion is that originals are better. If anything Hendrix should get more credit for what he did in experimenting with the electric guitar. Not denying his talent, but Johnson and Wolf express it better with what they used. They all had an understanding of life in their times that can't be denied, but I'd argue that Hendrix lucked out a lot with how the music industry was going at that time because if it was some mix of blues and rock it sold whether it was good or not. Hell, The Doors got hugely popular around the same time.

Don't pick fights you're not prepared to finish hatelore. Next time I call you a fucking idiot, just accept it as fact and move on with your life.

Hasbinbad isn't real clear on facts versus opinions and he's never wrong. Arguing things like music, politics, and religion with him is pretty much like shouting at the shower when the hot water runs out. Sometimes you have to do it, but it's completely pointless.

Hasbin is the kind of dude who will post six or seven times in a row during a thread about guitarists. He's got tits.

what's really odd is that without blues we don't get stuff like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo3TXQmPOkc
