Uh how is that not a touchdown? I've seen this play atleast 5 times in the last 10 years, 2 players come down with a ball (simultaneous posession) and the offensive player always wins. You can see Golden Tate's hand on the inside of Green Bay's defenders arms which are already closing down on the ball, isn't much to argue about here...regular referees would have made the same call 99.9% of the time in that same situation.

And Tate friggen blatantly shoved Shields to the ground before the interception. Where's the offensive pass interference?

Not a fan of either, however, it isn't simultaneous possession when one player has the ball completely against their body and the second player only has an arm on it.

What was the spread of this game? Seahawks +3.5? And they were losing by 5? It looks like it shifted 150 million fucking dollars in bets according to ESPN. I am not saying this is what happened, but this is the same crew that fucked up the end of that redskins-rams game. If i was some shithole scab who gets paid 1/3rd of what the real refs get paid. Maybe I pull something that NBA ref got nailed for a few years ago.

Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 5 states:

Simultaneous Catch. If a pass is caught simultaneously by two eligible opponents, and both players retain it, the ball belongs to the passers.

It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control. If the ball is muffed after simultaneous touching by two such players, all the players of the passing team become eligible to catch the loose ball.

That is why it was a bad call- The second situation is what occurred  However, I'm not a Greenbay Packers fan or a Seattle fan so it didn't really affect me. Was another terrible call to add to the list though that the replacements have made and is an embarassment to the league. :D

Look very closely at the replay, golden tate's left arm comes in underneath the packer's defenders arms, between the ball and the defender's chest. Technically this would be considered simultaneous posession; tate had his hands around the ball in such a manner that if the defender didn't also have his hands on it..tate would've come down with the catch anyway. People/the sports media just love to QQ whenever something like this happens to the packers/patriots, or america's sweetheart teams. Seriously this SAME exact thing happened to the jets last year cromartie caught a pick but the receiver came down with his hands on the ball as well...same ruling, offensive player got the catch.

Couldn't be more wrong. It's not possession if you have 1 hand on it as its secure to the defenders chest who's feet are on the ground completing a "football" move.

Really its not the refs fault, they are not qualified. The NFL is to blame for not making sure its league has the best refs available. What a freaking circus... in fact the people are to blame because despite the nfl not providing good refs, the people still see these games in person paying big time money or watching them on tv with 3000 commercials.

The 'catch' isn't complete until the player goes to the ground in this case. Both had two hands on it when they went to the ground, so I think dual possession applies.

Look at it again. Jennings has 2 hands on the ball clutched against his chest with 2 feet on the ground. Tate has 1 hand on the ball against Jennings chest. You tell me who qualifies as having possession FIRST, which is what matters.

Jennings caught the ball, Tate caught Jennings. Therefore Tate caught the ball by the rule of composition.

I don't see that at all. Looks to me like they're both fighting for possession all the way to the ground. Jennings doesn't get both feet down until Tate has touched the ball 2 or 3 times with his right hand (his left hand obscured beneath the ball from most angles).

There's nothing I see in the replay that would overturn it either way, I think whichever call was on the field would have stood under further review.

Wrong, Tate touched the ball almost simultaneously with his left hand as jennings made the interception. Now, you can see the ball IS NOT touching jennings' chest yet, but tate has his left hand inside between his chest and the ball, and his right hand closing over the outside of the ball. At this point they both have posession, and the catch by both has to be maintained through them falling to the ground...which happened. Its not as complicated as everyone is making it, it WAS simultaneous posession...and the rule states that the offensive players wins posession in that case. Why is this still up for discussion world wide? lol does anyone else watch football unless the packers or patriots are playing? I've seen this hundreds of times before as I'm sure any other football fan has, plays out the same way everytime.

Offensive pass interference should have negated the entire play in the first place.

Offensive pass interference should have negated the entire play in the first place.

With the benefit of video replay and multiple angles the pass interference is pretty clear. Given the scrum of 5 players jumping for the ball, and the speed of the game, it'd be horrible to call it there. The official would essentially be guessing, and there's about 6 other things he's gotta be looking at.

It was definitely a closer call than I originally thought (due to the whole simultaneous catch and they need definitive evidence to overturn the call on the field), etc., but Tasselhoff, you need to consider the fact that literally all the NFL experts and players/coaches/retired refs around the league (minus Pete Carroll) thought that it was an interception.

Not to mention the fact that coincidentally there was a resolution with the old refs and the NFL within 3 days of the incident... Just seems like they knew they busted the call, they knew that that everyone knew that they busted the call, and that there would almost be a riot if something wasn't done to resolve it.

Now we can all go back to enjoying our Sundays without anarchy!

It was an interception, but at the same time it was a catch. The offensive pass interference WAS obvious, but it is RARELY if ever called in a hail mary pass situation like that. Yep, glad the real refs are back...cause there were certainly bad calls being made, I just don't necessarily think the real referees would have made that packers/seattle call any differently then the "scabs".

In order for sim. Catch oth players must have BOTH hands on the ball, to attain possession. The offensive player had only 1 hand in contact while the defensive player had 2, giving him possession. Whoever has possession is then down by contact when landing, it was an interception. Sim possession never occurs. Because the defensive player had FULL possession first.

Nope, offensive player had 2 hands on the ball. You just can't see his hand underneath the ball clenched between the defender's chest and the football.
