This bug report is in correspondence with a petition filed a month or so back that was picked up by Nilbog. Upon asking about the status of the petition, it was suggested that I submit a bug report for the issue as well. The petition link (for staff) is: http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=82197

During the Wizard Epic Quest (Staff of the Four), the wizard is required to venture to the Plane of Fear and obtain Cazic's Skin. Upon looting the skin from Cazic, the wizard must return to Kandin Firepot in Butcherblock Mountains and hand it to him. In return Kandin gives the wizard "Kandin's Bag." Upon completing the quest for the Staff of Gabstik, Kandin asks for the bag back. When the wizard returns the bag, he receives a Note to Arantir.

This is where the quest bug occurs. Several walkthroughs from the 2000 era state that the note must be given to Arantir himself, who resides in Halas (although some point out it could be handed to Dargon as well). Upon handing the Note to Arantir to Arantir, he is supposed to despawn, and a "different" Arantir responds in his place. If you hail the "new" Arantir, he should respond back asking the wizard for the three staves.

Upon turning the Note to Arantir to Arantir, he did not properly despawn, nor spawn the "different" Arantir in his place. Upon hailing Arantir, he did not respond asking for the three staves. This halted the progress for the epic quest, and the petition was filed.

Below are a list of guides and images showing the cadence of a successful wizard epic.

Graffe's Wizard Staff of the Four Guide (http://web.archive.org/web/200012130725/http://www.graffe.com/quests/fiery_avenger_type/index.htm) (December 2000)
Secondary Walkthrough (http://www.e-douguya.com/eq/wiz/epic.shtml) (November 2000, apologies for the Japenese text, but the images help)

In addition, below is an image that shows the turn-in cadence for the wizard epic. This is from the Secondary Walkthrough.

http://i.imgur.com/RhxqD.jpg

In summary, Arantir A (the first Arantir) should be capable of receiving the Note to Arantir and spawning the second Arantir, Arantir B. Currently, you can only turn the note into Dargon.

My intent was to make this bug report concise and to the point. If there is any information you feel I have left out, please do not hesitate to ask here or through private message.

Thanks for all the hard work!

Would love for some of the TMO wizards to post their experiences here, since they've done several turn-ins: What NPC you used to spawn Arantir B (Dargon or Arantir A), what faction the submitter had, etc.

Thanks!

every TMO wizard used Dargon (sp) and the turn ins were done with amiable faction ! Hope this helps.

Perhaps something can be worked out when we get our next CT skin as you seem to clearly have a case here. Hope you guys get your epics !

You need to hand the note to Dargon to spawn the Arantir B.

Taken from your first link:

Now take this note from Kandin and give it to Dargon in Halas. This will cause Arantir to spawn in the place of Dargon once again. Once Arantir has spawned, hail him and continue

You say, 'hail Arantir Karondor'

Arantir Karondor says 'Ah yes, you again. Do you have the items? Give me the three you possess and I'll combine them with my own.

At this point, hand Arantir all three staves, the Blue Crystal Staff, the Gnarled Staff, and the Staff of Gabstik. IMPORTANT: Be sure to have an empty slot open in your MAIN inventory before you hand over the 3 staves. That or have a container that can hold a 'giant' item.

Arantir Karondor says 'Here, this pack contains all of our items. You will never be able to open it again, so you must deliver the pack, intact, to Solomen. He will then reward you. Now that I have helped you, leave me in peace.

Thanks for our input Eccezan, but I specifically remember a different path on live as well. In fact, I remember it being a complete pain because you would have to buy a second Ro's Breath potion to spawn Arantir A. To my knowledge, you couldn't spawn Arantir B with Dargon until a little later (it was hotfixed or something). I appreciate you quoting the first article, but I read that as well. The second article shows that you could have also handed the note to Arantir A.

ro's breath spawns a different version of arantir. No idea why you didn't just follow the guide.

Sorry, I think you guys are missing the point of the original post and guide(s) (there are two, the second one is what we used). Hoping to get developer or GM feedback at some point for this. Thanks.

just looked over your japanese post, I have no idea why you chose to use the least verifiable walkthrough rather than the one on graffe, or zam. However the translation seems to me, to be someones attempt to translate the epic to japanese players, they even reference graffe.com

The guide walks you through the quest in the traditional sense and then seems to recap in rambling fashion at the end.

Dargon always got the letter to pop the appropriate arantir and arantir depops shortly after... prob 15 min?

Sorry you lost your skin, I hope you got it back.

The Gaffe guide and Japanese guide say different things.

From Gaffe:

Now take this note from Kandin and give it to Dargon in Halas. This will cause Arantir to spawn in the place of Dargon once again. Once Arantir has spawned, hail him and continue

So it says give the Note to Arantir to Dargon, and it will spawn the final turn-in NPC. This is how TMO wizards apparently did it.

The Japanese part from below the "Halas" heading:

再びやってきました極寒の街Halas。
しかし、WizGGポイントから、もっとも遠い街に配置されている辺り、
Verantの意地の悪さを感じますね…。
念のために先人のやり方を踏襲して、最初の方のパートの薬渡しで Arantirをポップさせます。
また800pp程とびますた><;
という事で、貯金が1000ppをきってたり><あう

いよいよ、ノートを渡します。
ちゃんちゃらちゃ~ん!
Quest達成時のファンファーレが鳴り響きますが、 何も聞けず、何も貰えません><;

渡しましょう、貴重な3Staff、Blue Crystal Staff、Gnarled Staff、 Staff of Gabstikを!
流石に緊張が走ります><;

Lazy Translation:

Once again back to frigid Halas.
The town further from any of the wizard spires...this is how wicked Verant is...
Just to be sure, I followed the steps of some before me, and popped Arantir in the same way as at the beginning by handing over the medicine (Breath of Ro).
Cost me another 800pp ><;
There goes my 1000pp of savings >< ugh (Haha 1k pp was a big deal!)

Alright, I hand in the note.
Ding~~!
The chime that plays when you complete a quest played, but I heard no new text, and I didn't get anything back! ><
Did it fail? Nope, it seems that you just have to hail him again.
Hailing him this time, his response is different than after giving him the medicine (Breath of Ro).
(When you hail the Arantir that pops from the Breath of Ro, you recieve the ring to give to Challice)
I guess that one might have depopped, and this is a New Arantir...

Anyways, Arantir says if I give him the 3 staves he will combine them for me.

Lets hand them over, the 3 valuable staves, Blue Crystal Staff, Gnarled Staff, and Staff of Gabstik!
So nervous, of course ><;

So basically it sounds like you're right? You should be able to spawn Arantir the same way as in the beginning and turn in the stuff that way. Weird how these are apparently only 1 month apart in date (I couldnt find the month for the Japanese article), but it changed? Or maybe Gaffe was updated at some point?

Either way the way you did it seems legitimate, so hopefully you can get the reimbursement, and either have the quest changed so both options are possible, or just one is and its made clear so no other skins are lost in vain!

Hope the translation helps, I'm bored!

Najdorf's Graffe link isn't actually from December 2000, as it includes the broken golem and the golem wasn't added until several months later.

This is the actual December 2000 link:
http://web.archive.org/web/200012130725/http://www.graffe.com/quests/fiery_avenger_type/index.htm

Which has the text:
You will now have a note from Kandin that you must take to Arantir. This is where things go weird. Occy, the wizard that first completed this quest, took the note to Arantir and handed it to him. Upon handing it to Arantir, nothing happened. No item handed back to Occy, no words spoken by Arantir... nothing. Needless to say, Occy just about cr*pped himself. All Occy heard was the experience 'chime'. Then Occy hailed Arantir <i>after</i> he handed in the note.

Which would indicate that the note was originally handed to Arantir instead of Dargon.

And the Japanese website is not a translation of other walkthroughs, that is their actual walkthrough that they were developing as they found new details. You'll notice at the bottom what is basically a "changelog" of what was updated on the guide (in regards to the skin portion of the quest that took a while to figure out due to the skin hardly dropping on live) as time passed from October 5th to completion by Winday (December 25th). This is the same place where I found out that Arantir is supposed to drop the Robe of Recovery (aka the no rent clarity robe), which no other website on the internet had the details of, so it's pretty legit as far as fact finding goes.

I'm the one that recommended to San that he hand the note to Arantir based on these guides, as they were the only ones I could find that had dates relevant to our timeline (and I hate going off the wiki for things like this). Hopefully nilbog sees it as enough evidence to warrant reimbursement, because the feeling we all had when nothing happened after the note was turned in sucked major dong, especially for me since I'm the one that told him to turn it into Arantir.

Haha, I would be amazed if they spend all the time writing that gigantic walkthrough and it just happened to be wrong. Wasn't a different server or anything~

If you think about the storyline, Arantir is incognito, hiding as Dargon in Halas. So you want to talk to Dargon and give him the note. Same with the ring earlier on.

If Arantir is up its most likely going to be the intermediate Arantir spawn that hasn't depopped. You can tell which it is by hailing him.

You say, 'hail Arantir Karondor'
Arantir Karondor says' Ah yes, you again.
Do you have the items?
Give me the three you possess and I'll combine them with my own.
Final Arantir only.

Raavak -- yes, you should be able to hand the note into Dargon as well. But the point of this bug is to point out that you could also turn the note into the first Arantir for the same effect. Also, in a lot of the earlier guides (such as those that I have linked in the original post), it appears that it may have been the only option starting out, and patched later.

there is nothing at all that appears that way. Stop trying to skew the game just because you screwed up. It is detrimental to the server and staff time. You chose to rely on a poorly translated guide with bad syntax in the final paragraph.

Not everything that disagrees with you in RNF,

@sam exactly, there are 2 version of Arantir that spawn both before and after the implementation of the broken golem.

I believe the Broken Golem implementation only affects Kandin Firepot in BB.

As far as quests and storyline go Dargon and Arantir are one and the same person. Handing the note to any version should result in Arantir B. You lost your CT skin because of clunky game mechanics is all. Hope you get reimbursed.

For what it's worth, I both understand and agree that this is lower priority than many of the other bugs posted in here, but it is still a bug (take the time to read everything and you may agree).

I leave it up to the development staff to determine what is a bug, what is not, and what priority that bug receives. All I can do is bump it.

Just over 3 months actually (6-28 was Sanluen's original petition date). But yes, please. At this point, it's just become a game of seeing how many bumps I can add to a petition thread before someone says something (42, currently).
