I remember for sure that the monk BotB was fists only and that epic was the only item that could be clicked. It created an uproar, because the Epic quest was kinda new (or at least not that many monks were epic'ed) and the epic fist + the epic haste would not leave a chance to the non-epic monks.

There was a similar issue with the Magician BotB I think due to the vaste superiority of the epic pet.

I don't plan to return for the Botb. EQ pvp doesn't really draw my attention and all the best necros are in TMO. I'd say Necrious has the best shot, even if i was in it.

Well, I went and dueled Jeremy straight up and serious. He was a tough cookie in KC jumping in and out of los, was kinda tough. Idk how you guys do, would be interested to see you guys doing some training duels and fraps it up and post on TMO forums tho. I'd definitely watch those. IFS is pretty much just as good as a trorsmang since delay is irrelevant in a joust, but it's moot if 2handers are disallowed.

Dear Gladiators,
I think we may have not given you a complete enough explanation for removing the regeneration items from the Best of the Best. In order to be fair to everyone in all of the Best of the Best we, on the Events Team, thought we would relate to you why we did this.

One of the reasons is sheer time. Many of the matches can last up to one hour. Does anyone remember the Paladins Best of the Best? It is virtually impossible to have the Events Team, server GM and Guide staff to support such lengthy matches on 40 servers. Would we like too? Absolutely!! But if we did that there would be one Best of the Best class Tournament once every several months. According to my math it would take us over 2 years to run one sweep of every class for the Best of the Best.

The second reason is that this competition is to determine the “best of the best” for each class. The player who has the best strategy, the best tactics. Yes armor plays a factor, however skill is paramount. More than once I have seen a 56 level player wipe the ground with a 60 level player. In both cases the 56th level did not have armor as good as the 60th, but out classed them in skill. For this reason armor, weapons etc are not as important as the players ability to use whatever he/she has at their disposal.

On the flip side had we not made some changes we would have had to 1) set a higher level cap for competitors 2) capped the # of players who could compete or 3) had a single server competition span over two nights to allow all competitors to have their turn. All three of these things would have been extremely unfair and inconvenient to the players. Many many players take time off from work and or stay up late (some past 4am their time) in order to participate in their servers Best of the Best. In fairness to all players who wish to compete we need to keep the matches capable to be run in one night, in the shortest possible time. Most tournaments currently take anywhere from 6-12 hours. (anyone remember the Paladins?) With our growing high level population we want as many as possible to compete, in order to do this we decided to remove one thing that would shorten the matches and make the Gladiator rely on his/her skill over an item. Did we want to do this? No of course not. We would rather let you use what ever item you wish too, we know how much hard work goes into obtaining these items. We are working on future events where you can use all your items unfortunately that isn’t the case for the Best of the Best.

As thoughts come in about the use of the fungi and a good number base to go off of for each class, then we can make a decision. So far it's just been me setting this up. I'm sure Amelinda would be happy to help on those days, and I hope other guides would show up to help judge.

So in essence it is based on time. I may appoint other people to be judges also. I'm always open for debate on what can or shouldn't be allowed.

Pick a place, pick a time. No bullshit clickies (wands, hoops, etc) and no Tstaffs and I'm reasonably sure I'll win. Im better geared than some of the TMO monks and I've definitely PvPed longer.

See i dont see P99 as the retards left over. I see P99 as people who were addicted to EQ (Many of us were or are) and needed to play it again. Out of that on this box we have had many live BOTB winners or runners up etc. P99 has seen some of the best players that played EQ on this box at some point.

Also to these other people - equipment doesn't meant everything - skill and a little luck with rng max hits helps in pvp.
For example I just dueled Tortue in KC - won first one, lost second one, won the third- it could have honestly gone either way.
Skill has a lot more to do with dueling than people think on monks.

Aye Chest it was a helluva duel man =) If the crowd wouldn't have been screaming for blood we could have finished it proper. I dont blame Ambrotos at all - we were at like the 6 min mark with 15+ spectators, 1 or 2% hp apart (in the 50s) and people were getting bored. He honestly didnt know I didn't have my disc up from the fight before but you did when he snared us both. Hella close even so man - 4%? Good practice too for the up coming fun.

I gotta give Chest props he duels quite well. Looking forward to the monk BoTB alot now.

And a big Thank You to Ambro for hosting this impromptu melee/sever event. A lot of fun was had by many people.
