On a few occasions I have been unable to loot the corpse of a mob that I killed soloing. There were no other players involved in the killing of said mob. The message states "you are too far away from this corpse. You cannot loot this corpse at this time." appeared even after seven minutes of trying to loot it from every angle possible. Below are the different locations/mobs.
4 June, Frontier Mountains, a goblin dustscryer
Approx 31 May, Everfrost Peaks, an ice giant
Approx 28 May, Everfrost Peaks, an ice giant
I do not know exactly what else information will help to identify the issue. I looked around on past eq1 issues and did not find anything helpful.
On a side note, a goblin dustscryer drops Dustscryer's Crystal Ball 100% of the time, according to p1999 wiki and other sources. Due to the bug I was unable to retrieve the item. If possible is there a chance to receive that item? Not being able to loot the two ice giants were slightly saddening, however it took me over 5 hours to spawn the goblin dustscryer and not being able to receive my reward is rather disheartening. Thank you in advance for your help and have a good day!

I've also had this problem in the past in Frontier Mountains. I killed a Burnyai Cenobite and was unable to loot the corpse , camped out 3-4 times did not help. Happened about 3 months ago now...this may be a zone issue.

From what I can tell, it has to do with people fighting mobs on hills, or with levy on. The npcs have a tendency to bounce between the ground and sky if someone is kiting above the ground.
Try and fight the npcs on flat ground without levy on.

Fight without levy in frontier mountains? are you crazy? =) I will thoroughly test that out, not only in Frontier Mountains but also in Everfrost Peaks where i first came across the issue. Will keep this open and update as needed. Thank you!
Sometimes when this happens you can target the corpse and walk a few steps away from it and type /loot and be able to loot it. Its almost as though where you see the corpse is not where the lootable spot is at. Not really something that can be fixed, I imagine, as this could happen on real eq.

I had this happen to me yesterday with a Fungi King that had a tunic. Immediately after killing the mob, my partner and I could both loot the corpse, but after I zoned, I couldn't see it or /target it. I managed to /assist the target off my partner, but it said the corpse was too far away. When he zoned, the same happened for him.

After a couple month hiatus I came back and second round of Ice Giants in Everfrost did it again. I noticed that they climbed to the top of the trees when being kited. Once they were dead and I confirmed I was unable to loot them, I levy’d myself and ran to the highest mountaintop. I ran back to the ice giants and I was able to loot them. I looked around and I was about the same height as the tree they climbed. Hopefully this helps anyone who comes across it.

So it sounds like there is two seperate issues being discussed.
1) if a mob goes up, he doesnt come back down server-side, (but he "appears" to go back to ground-level on client-side), creating a de-synch from client to server regarding the position of the corpse.
2) I noticed this myself, which correlates to quido's issue, that whenever you enter a zone, the server sends you the list of dead corpses, but the corpses will appear to the client at the position where the mob SPAWNED, instead of where it was KILLED. And in order to actually loot the corpse, you would need to be where it was actually KILLED. The server sends the wrong location for corpses when you zone in, creating a de-synch from client to server regarding the position of the corpse
