Very true and somewhat part of the downfall of the EQ (Live) community. I can recall spending a few hours surfing through the various Fan Communities researching, from EQ Traders, to all the various class sites and of course Everlore and Allakhazam's.

Yesterday and part of last night was the first time I saw a lot of trash talking, though I don't typically object to people bantering back and forth it was reminiscent of EQ Live Chat.

I was just telling a friend who came over to check out the EMU Sunday, that the conversation in /ooc has been relatively game related and he and I were enjoying seeing auctions and commenting on people reflecting on elements of the game.

While I know of no way of totally disabling /ooc, it *can* be moved to its own chat window, and then that chat window can be both minimized and made to fade-out. Doing the above effectively removes /ooc from your view except when desired.

Yes, you can go about it a couple different ways. Depending on your UI, you can either right click your chat window and select Chat Filters (or whatever its specific name is) and deselect OOC. Or, you can go under Options, Filters tab (or whatever it's called), and Hide OOC.

As far as the original post goes, I agree that there should be a sense of civility and decency towards fellow gamers. OOC spam about "Happy Birthday Hitler" and shit like that last night was annoying. Personal attacks and flames are also unneeded, especially in a public channel like that. However, remember this is the internet, and if you've been on the internet for longer than 5 minutes, you'll already know that you need to develop a tough skin to survive.

If people are breaking the rules in a way that you personally find unacceptable, the best way to bring that to the attention of people who can act to change it is by posting evidence and which rule you believe was broken in the Petition/Exploit forum. The GM's will make a judgment call and deal with it as they see fit.

Talking to the people that are running the server and forums as if they are your personal servants probably isn't the best way to go about getting your way. I can't help but think of a gigantic baby in a diaper stomping his feet on the ground when I see these "grown ups" crying about their flaming and offensive language being limited in ooc.

I'm not perfect and I'm sure I have offended quite a few people with my language throughout playing my MMO's, but never have I had a bunch of people want me to receive a ban because of it. Once it is brought to my attention I usually try to behave or "grow up" and admit where I was in the wrong.

That's nice. Except, like Finawin, you're missing the point. It's not about any one, single person being offended. It's about the reputation of the community as a whole. If the first thing people see when they log onto p99 is a bunch of racist/sexist/homophobic and otherwise hateful discussion, joking or not, it's not going to bode well for the success of the server. All the devs are asking for is some self-restraint. The fact is, that shit is not necessary. Seriously, some minor swear words are not the issue here.

And if I can be so bold as to beat the crap out of a dead horse, I honestly don't think as many people would whine in /ooc if they knew that the entire server couldn't read it, like they can now. Consider local newspapers; before the internet, readers only submitted editorials when they felt VERY strongly about a subject. Now that most newspapers are online, and the websites allow comments to be posted on the stories, EVERYONE has an opinion, whether they have the knowledge or insight or tact to back it up. Same with serverwide chat, imo. People are going to spout off more readily because they know everyone playing has access to their beef, and that now their own business is EVERYBODY'S business.

If you have to ask that question, then you clearly aren't interested in a classic live experience, and I question your motives for putting up with the grind and frustration of the early days of Everquest if you aren't looking for the nostalgic feel of those early days, of which congregating in a common zone to trade, banter and /lfg was VERY MUCH a part of that experience.

Banks are now shared, so that's not even an issue.

I just started playing last week and I hit 15 with my SK this week so I thought I'd try to fear kite some crocs. It was doable but absolutely nothing like it was in classic... the mobs would slow to a crawl in classic, now they practically still run at full speed even with CD on them. It's not a huge issue to me since I intend on grouping mostly anyway, but mob run speeds are definitely different from classic. This is further evidenced by the distance that mobs maintain from you if you strafe run. They stay constantly 20-30 ft from you now... you used to be able to actually increase your distance doing this.

I heard from another discussion that the current server would be able to hold about 1000 people (this could have been hearsay, i don't know) and the current population caps at around 700. That is pretty impressive but I distinctly remember Eq servers at launch with 3000 or more people max... the average was probably around 2000.

Well, he THINKS shared banks work because the shared bank slots still appear on the bank GUI. I imagine that's a limitation of basing P99 off Titanium, more than anything.

He is sort of correct though on the fact that there is a lot about P99 that still isn't classic. But he hasn't played long enough to realize that every patch is getting closer and closer, and that serverwide chat is just the most obvious example of non-classic here.

He also needs to reaffirm his understanding of the word "dichotomy". :P

I wish I had people to respond to this stupid shit for me. First of all, the client we use is Titanium. You won't see some the things removed, because its in the client. That doesn't mean they work.

I just started playing last week and I hit 15 with my SK this week so I thought I'd try to fear kite some crocs. It was doable but absolutely nothing like it was in classic... the mobs would slow to a crawl in classic, now they practically still run at full speed even with CD on them.Runspeed is a known issue? I heard from another discussion that the current server would be able to hold about 1000 people (this could have been hearsay, i don't know) and the current population caps at around 700. That is pretty impressive but I distinctly remember Eq servers at launch with 3000 or more people max... the average was probably around 2000Mine had between 1500-2000 on prekunark. Anyways, the newer server is untested by population. I don't see how this statement has any relevance?

Not my field of expertise. Bug report it as game mechanics with how it should/should not work and we'll see if it can be fixed.

To be fair, casinos weren't always a part of every server's experience. My server didn't have anyone doing casinos until circa 2001.
