Is this the first you have noticed that the vast majority of Americans are ignorant? Hell, most that oppose socialism only do so because the politicians of their team say to oppose it. I'd bet 95% or more of the public have no idea what the "calculation problem" is.

The Soviet Union's collapse proved it doesn't work.

The problem with that argument is that anyone can argue that the soviets just didn't do it right. I mean, they were kinda far from "perfect" socialism. To really show why socialism will always fail, you have to understand some basic economic theory. Unfortunately, the for the majority of Americans, exercising their brain is simply not an option. Far easier to let others do the thinking for you.

Benevolent dictatorship can really be said to be the most perfect system of government.

Socialism will succeed or fail based on the people behind it.

Capitalism will succeed or fail based on the people behind it.

Any -ism can be just as good or bad as any other -ism, depending on who's running shit.

No system is guaranteed to succeed or fail.

The problem with socialism is its all on good intentions. I won't say the same about capitalism but perhaps so. But flawed economic theories fail time and time again.

People who frequent these forums have nothing to fear from socialism, it's the only way they'll continue to exist irl and right here.

No system is guaranteed to succeed or fail.

On the contrary, every system is guaranteed to fail, it's just a question of how long it takes to get there. Less than a third of the nations on the planet have existed since before WW2, which gives you an idea of the timeline on which the typical system will explode (2-3 generations).

It ultimately doesn't matter what the system is in terms of sustainability, because human beings will always be running it, and human beings inevitably become more and more corrupt over time, prompting revolutions and reset.

The politically incorrect truth is that the most sustainable systems are single-ethnicity, single-culture systems, as these have the fewest internal conflicts and highest level of internal unity.

Capitalism failed bros, time to hang it up and try something else

Capitalism should not be condemned, since we haven't had capitalism. A system of capitalism presumes sound money, not fiat money manipulated by a central bank. Capitalism cherishes voluntary contracts and interest rates that are determined by savings, not credit creation by a central bank. It's not capitalism when the system is plagued with incomprehensible rules regarding mergers, acquisitions, and stock sales, along with wage controls, price controls, protectionism, corporate subsidies, international management of trade, complex and punishing corporate taxes, privileged government contracts to the military-industrial complex, and a foreign policy controlled by corporate interests and overseas investments. Add to this centralized federal mismanagement of farming, education, medicine, insurance, banking and welfare. This is not capitalism!

To condemn free-market capitalism because of anything going on today makes no sense. There is no evidence that capitalism exists today. We are deeply involved in an interventionist-planned economy that allows major benefits to accrue to the politically connected of both political spectrums. One may condemn the fraud and the current system, but it must be called by its proper names — Keynesian inflationism, interventionism, and corporatism.
