View Full Version : Can the dynamic range system be fixed and brought back?

The absolute #1 issue in PvP right now is that people are often out of range when they shouldn't be. Whether they're healing the people you're fighting or competing for the same content as you, it seems that pretty much every instance of PvP is affected by the fact that several players will be out of range to eachother. It's a huge obstacle to PvP, and it's very often what determines the outcome of a fight because a 6v6 easily turns into a 6v3 if the levels don't line up. OOR healing is a frequent problem as well, and in the lower levels where the range is smaller, you constantly get people capable of doing the same content but incapable of PvPing over it. The dynamic range system fixed all of this, and the only thing that was wrong with it was bugs. For some reason nobody could fucking see this and just screamed "the dynamic system is crap!!!111½" so loud that Rogean flung it out the window and Null ran out and buried it. If the few bugs can instead be fixed, this would solve a multitude of crippling problems that currently threaten the quality of the PvP on this server.

Agreed, 4 level range is small and annoying as are invincible OOR healers.
People said OOR healing wouldn't be a big deal, but I highly disagree it's already being used to zone control.

With the slow exp rates, most groups will have wide level ranges. With a 4 level range, it is almost certain that group PvP encounters will have OOR members.
This guy isn't scared of the 8 level range.

Just bring somebody that can hit the oor healer. Or bring some more dps to out dps the dreaded oor healer. I never had issues on RZ killing people with oor healers.

Frankly a lot of softies on all ends of this shit who'd rather bitch than man up.
This forum does circles, most non-retards knew that 4 was too small - but all the crybabies went on about how a 6 doesn't have any chance against a 14 oh no.
The idea of 8 levels is so that groups will always be in range for pvp, 4 is a lol range. At least it goes away when it matters, and 40+ is 8 or w/e so I don't really give a fuck.

The system in place is fine. These complaints are a result of isolated events. Raid zones (and by that the later end XP zones) are FFA.

Yes please, dynamic range was maybe the best new idea the devs had for the server.. it was depressing to see them give in to the people crying about it.

It could make a return but it was exploitable and a huge time sink when there are more pressing issues.

I can't imagine the code to be that complicated.
Defend yourself from someone 7 levels higher than you and become in-range to people 15 levels higher, yeah systems sweet bros.

Dude, really, +4/-4 with FFA in raid zones is perfectly effing fine. It's not a teams based server where opponents will be limited by hard coded faction. The lowest level person thing being the determining factor is a wtf in my book.

Why can't the level range be a dynamic number. Something like 20% of your current level. This way at level 50 it would be 10 levels, but at level 10 it would only be 2 level.
There is already enough griefing going on with red cons 3 shotting people and then deleveling them until they can't corpse camp them anymore. Imagine how bad it would be if these red cons had 2 full spell levels on you.

You do realize that people kept Clerics OOR because CH is a Level 39 spell. So Clerics could still heal, and be immune to PvP ganks.
There are two easy fixes:
Cast any spell on a person in PvP, Flags you for PvP (I thought this was supposed to be implemented actually).
Remove level ranges on PvP entirely. People who grief lowbies will then get their shit pushed in by other people because they are being giant douchebags. Sullon Zek was epic in this regard. To fix griefing, make it no EXP loss if they are out of the 'level range' but still keep them open to PvP.

Because level 50's killing level 5's is the only way to roll, amirite?
Maybe you underestimate how low the trolls on this server are willing to go to demonstrate their pvp prowess.

It's fucking stupid when one person in your group is getting attacked and you can't help, especially when it's an important member (ENC/CLR).
Or someone is griefing you but you can't do anything about it because they have OOR assistance (Extremely common).
Doesn't have to be dynamic but widen the range a little bit, a 6-8 range would be better because it would encompass people in range to your group members more often.
