Pokémon Black and White, which instead consists of 156 all-new creatures, which leaves the grand total standing at 649.

thats okay pokemon stadium N64 clearly the superior game

i literally played the game boy version so much when i was younger that I'd rather watch paint dry. Every time you just explorin or w/e and then the fucking sudden shit starts freaking out with sound and the camera spiral fades to a stupid pidgey and you just spam A till it dies... just typing that made me angered my brother

You could easily catch Mew in Red/Blue/Yellow and trade it to a later version, no?

Nope. Red/blue/yellow/gold/silver/crystal are too old.
Gameboy Advanced games (3rd Gen) can send pokémon to DS (4th gen) which can transfer pokémon to 5th gen.

Uhmmm. Mew was available as an unlockable event in third, but the event is long-over. It was also distributed in 4th over wifi for the pokemon 10th anniversary, which is also long over.
SO, the only way to get mew is to transfer him from the wii Pokemon Ranch game!

I was almost tempted to go download a ROM but these games are just way too easy. Not really any point to replay when you can just roflstomp your way through willy nilly.

Pick a Pokémon game, play it like this:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nuzlocke_Challenge

The most basic Nuzlocke rules, as they were first introduced, are as follows:
Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.

Mardur

The problem is that those rules really sap the fun out of the game, especially that second one. If trainers were just a bit more difficult and didn't always have shitty AI the games would be much more entertaining.

The AI thing is the biggest problem considering Pokemon is a game built around startegy. Unfortunately the trainers were coded to just randomly pick whatever move each round, when the player is prescient of the basic mechanics of the game like weaknesses. Considering almost every trainer in the game uses 1 or 2 types of pokemon exclusively, it's so easily exploitable. And it's not realistic, no human player uses 2 Staryu 3 Starmie and a Squirtle. And even if a Trainer has a Tentacruel out and a Golem as backup, he won't switch if you bring out a Jolteon.

It's a roleplaying game for 10 year olds. Your suppose to be a complete moron when playijng. Or roleplay one. Clearly the best pokemon line up is 6 metapods.

Neat, I recently got back into this series after an almost ten hear hiatus.

The battle mechanics and online capability of this game are far superior to anything like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc.

Anyone can get into this game and beat the single player mode, but very few actually understand the competitive aspects.

For example, you can just spam attacks with your starter pokemon and outlevel all of your encounters.

However, playing against other people is a different story entirely. Take this thread for example : http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85403

If you understood any of that shit, congratulations you might be decent at pokemon. As for me, I feel woozy and need to lay down after reading a few sentences of that.

Pokemon was cool for the first 150 pokemon. After that all the pokemon were very unoriginal and stupid looking. It's like the GOD of Everquest the mob names IJIJIJIJiJJKER hunter.... LOL original 150 will always be OG shit like EQ classic , after that it is so fail its ridiculous.

Casey

If you could wander around in Final Fantasy and recruit 649 different party members and battle them against other people online, it might hold a candle to the pokemon series.

That link I mentioned above is only one of the complex aspects of this game. The deeper you go, the more you find out that you probably don't have the mental capacity to be a competitive pokemon player.

Casey
10-18-2011, 03:56 AM
Also, I completely agree that the original pokemon are superior.

That's why I only use the original types and work with what I have. Its pretty fun smashing the new types with your old school teams.

Yeah, I understand the complexity of the game. That's why I wish the game was more difficult outside of online battle simulators. If you don't give a shit about stuff like IVs/EVs and basic moveset strategies with certain pokemon, you can still destroy the game without even trying. If you do know/understand/care about that stuff, the game is funnies.

You don't need something like a Baton Pass Dragon Dance setup in the game because you can kill everything by spamming charmander's ember.

Did you collect all symbols of Unown, both color versions of Shellos/Gastrodon, all versions of Burmy/Wormadam, etc??? Just curious as to what constitutes having a complete collection according to the game because if you count all the variations out there the number is closer to 700.

(Personally I managed to get all but 2 Unowns before I gave up on that and the game.)

I played a Pokemon difficulty romhack a year or two ago and it wasn't very polished. I'll see what's available nowadays.

FFVI Hardtype is pretty fun; I actually hacked my own version of FFVI (considering it's probably my favorite game of all time and I've beat it so many damn times) but I just kept it for myself and never went through with publicizing it. I figured it might be TOO hard for some people.

Here's a sample video from my hack:

Now that I think of it, I don't remember Final Fantasy VI Hard Type, although I'm sure I've played it. Evil Type was by far the best difficulty hack of that game, besides my own which is unavailable. Here's a video of EvilType:

Except then where do you stop!
You would need 2x gastrodons, every unown form, ever single arceus plate form, giratina origin + natural, shaymin normal + sky, 4,294,967,296 (actually) variations of spinda, every single pokemon's shiny form, males and females of every species, etc.

The dex is considered complete when a sample from every species (except event pokemon) is captured. The newstyle dex actually does record gender differences, shiny variations, and alternate formes as you see them, so I guess it can always get more complete. hehe

Wow, I wish they didn't do that. If it wasn't for that and shinies (shiny ones should be reserved for the card game only imho, it's a dumb feature) it would be a more realistic goal.
