View Full Version : Game Mechanics: DR counters on Slows

In game all slows appear to have DR counters. Going by the Spdat they should be MR based and unable to be cured (dispel only).
Casters of slow spells recently given a disease component (such as Shiftless Deeds and Turgur's Insects) should no longer attract undue attention to themselves.

Also pet healing spells should not cure disease.
Pet healing spells now have a Cure Disease effect.

Shaman slow line is MR based but should have disease counters and be curable. Afaik enchanter slow line is MR based and only dispellable.

Do you have any evidence for this? What I get from this is that all slow spells were given a Disease component just before that patch, they just gave two examples.
Here are a few of the spells from Lucy where the Disease counters were added (3-19-2002):

yea shaman slows are disease based. going from my rock solid memory of course.
also, nothing was ever recorded by lucy before 2002.. so the "initial entry" and info immediatly after it is what the spell was like at the time lucy went up, not "change log" events
see http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spellhistory.html?id=36&source=Live for example. it's the history for the "gate" spell

Classic shm/enchanter slows are all magic resist check + disease counters and curable with an appropriate cure disease spell. This is similar to how the tashan line can be cured with cure poison spells. Dispel does not work (since dispel will not touch debuffs with poison/disease counters).
Shamans first get a disease resist check slow in Luclin but that's irrelevant for this server.

As far as I know, they were made to have disease counters in a patch somewhere along the way. Hell if I remember when, but it wasn't that way from the beginning.

Pretty sure we're past that point anyways. I had a main shaman during the current P99 timeline on live and I remember slows always having disease counters. There's a chance my memory may be a little rusty, but eh.

I know some of the data on Lucy is not correct pertaining to dates. In this case it seems it is. Look at the patch link on the first post:
http://www.tski.co.jp/baldio/patch/20020424.html
Now take a look at the Lucy link for Turgur's Insects:
http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spellhistory.html?id=1588&source=Live
The patch notes are the EXACT same date hate was reduced on 4-24-2002 from Lucy.
2002-04-24 12:09 Added Slot 4: Decrease Hate by 200
How do you guys come to the conclusion that Slows had Disease counters previous to a patch before this when they were added. It explicitly states that they did not.
Casters of slow spells recently given a disease component (such as Shiftless Deeds and Turgur's Insects) should no longer attract undue attention to themselves.

Some further reading about this:
So and Slow It Grows
A recent change to the way slow-type spells work is causing a bit of buzz these days. Notice this line from the most recent patch message:
- Improved the way that Abolish Disease/Poison and Counteract Disease/Poison work
Seems harmless, right? Well, it turns out that slow spells had a disease counter attached to them. So what? Well, this means you can't dispell slow anymore; you can only remove it with the remedies listed above.
So why are some folks up in arms (http://pub35.ezboard.com/fthesafehousethebackroomsecretsspoilers.showMessag e?topicID=10421.topic) about this change? Well, take a mob like Sontalak for example. He casts an AoE dispell that also hits himself, which in the past meant that any kind of debuff or slow spell that you managed to land on him would be gone in short order. Since slows are now disease-based, it means dispell won't get rid of it--only cure disease will. So now Sont (formerly a pretty badass dragon, btw) is officially neutered (http://209.41.182.75/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=11&topic=2231&replies). The Arch Lich in Ssra Temple is a gimp. Any mob with an AoE dispell that used to be essentially unslowable is now a weakling. Thus we have some formerly challenging content being trivialized, and some uberfolks don't care for that.
This change works in reverse, too. If a mob slows you, a disease cure can take care of it. When fighting a mob that casts an AoE slow, this brings to mind all kinds of tactics for keeping aggro where you want it...
Whether Verant will keep slow spells working this way is uncertain. As always, get some mileage out of it while you still can.

Before fixing this bug, please make sure the cancel magic line of spells actually works as intended, so you can kill slow with it from group mates and pets, otherwise you'll just introduce a new issue which makes slow totally incurable for anyone that is not a caster (any warrior for example).
Currently cancel magic only produces a "You try to cast a spell on xyz, but they are protected."
As a side note.
On Red, I need to be able to remove detrimental spells from my pet.
I know the coin is two-sided, as this will let others break my charms.
I'll take that chance.
Thanksya!

Not to necro and old post but upon casting cure disease to dispell Togor's Insects several times it does not dispell it. Is it because this "change" was in 2002 and the server is not up to that date that this has not been implemented yet?
