if you're rich and fancy go for laphroaig
only if you're really, really accustomed to peaty scotch, though. otherwise it's like drinking liquid charcoal or something.

also laphroaig is great and really not that pricy, like $40/bottle and i dont think anyone wants to gorge themselves on something with that intense flavor
im chasing this shit with water, which as non peasants know is fucking so awful
i dont drink for the taste thats for damn sure
you know what i have a drinking problem theres nothing left to drink

QFT
Single Barrel, Single Malt or nothing.
If ladaig was still around I would drink that, but all you can get now is 10 yo from the new owners.
Im currently drinking a Speyside single malt 15 yo called Balvenie. Pretty good stuff, only about $60 for 750mL.

The 3 levels of whiskey understanding:
1.) blends own i'm not paying $60 for a bottle of booze lol
2.) i only stock the finest single malts in my undergraduate dorm room
3.) I'm confident enough in my taste to not limit myself to what scotch forums say is good.

That's cuz it's loaded with sugar to cover the actually-horrible taste.

Then it's bad whiskey.
Last "good" whiskey I drank didn't even need be put on ice -- let alone a chaser.

JW Blue Label. Smoothest stuff ever, if you go for blend and can afford it.

Blue Label is a good tasting blended scotch, but extremely over priced. And shooting Scotch for 135.00 per shot just identifies the folks who have more money than common sense and are probably trying to impress people rather than enjoy a good Scotch....but w/e floats their boat I guess.

so wut u need to do is buy a handle of capn and a 2 liter bottle of ginger ale. for some reason the flavors mesh just so, so that u can mix literally like 2/3 rum and 1/3 ginger ale and barely taste the liquor so u dont need to chase at all. its my new fav drink and it has gotten me in2 lots of trouble ^_^

We used to do this^ with Southern Comfort. Something about Ginger Ale, it just works with some things.

back when I was underage I bought a bottle of johnnie walker black label to feel cool and to see if I could taste the difference, but I never got to taste it.
my junkie neighbour was smashing his windows and walls in a rage, abusing his niece, so I ran over and made her come hide in my room. in the morning she'd vanished along with my clothes, cds, and the still-boxed black label :(:(:(

I don't care for JW Black. Also if you are going to brag about how elite your JW is it could atleast be the blue label.

once you start drinking real scotch, black label will taste like a bootyhole. i only drink it when it's mixed with cream soda and rimmed with brown sugar now, and even then it's still not that great (i've had an unopened handle of black label for 10 months now that i received as a gift, it's that bad). blue label and blue label king george are pretty good, but at their $200/450 price points they suck compared to singles in that range.
and if you're looking for a cheap blend to make yourself look "classy", get something like famous grousse at least. you'll impress people more by drinking a lesser-known brand with a classier name, but also reward yourself with a better-tasting drink at the same time.
