Something always stuck with me from these posts and it was someone with a big thread where they said they were giving away game changing items and plat because they were quitting or whatever. Of course people jumped on being included and someone was picked…. But what I think happened here was a massive RMT coverup and they knew the person they would pick from the start. This allowed them to RMT in the public eye with no one thinking twice (except me) - I believe the “winner” was in fact a customer and they created the whole thing to hide the transfer of massive amounts of p99 wealth.

I never had a problem with RMT. I suppose it would make people even more greedy with camps that's why its bad?
I always thought it was fine, because like, I collect old things IRL like comic books, and toys and stuff, and I like how people can make a living with their favorite hobbies.
So i always thought RMT was good in a game like Everquest. Never really believed in the reasons why its bad, but I never cared enough to like be a revolutionary about it or anything.
But I think RMT would actually be better for these types of games than no RMT.

The issue with RMT on P99 is due to the legality of it. As an emulated server, you don't want to be seen profiting off of an IP/Game you don't own. Recall the recent lawsuit with THJ. Emulated servers must be free and non-profit to stand a chance of surviving, unless they get express permission from the owners.
If P99 was it's own game and not an emulated server, RMT wouldn't be a big deal. Games like Diablo 2 have always had RMT, amd it was fine.

The problem is some of this meta-gaming stuff like aoe'ing fungus grove and sebilis is possible in the game mechanics and, was fun.
It became unfun due to non-policing of rmt and boxing teams. A lot of game mechanics became unfun due to rmt and boxing teams.
But rmt and boxing teams is now what the vast majority of potential players expect as a choice they should be able to make.
Big mistake mmorpg's did was not establish a strong tradition of the role of the GM in these kinds of games. The GM, is now a cashier at a store. You get what you pay for, literally.
There isn't any market for GM's in online games. That's just one of those big mistakes that shaped the future. Unless a GM is doing QoL stuff, no younger gamer even understands a GM used to be able to change the game.

A birdie told me that the man himself, Mr. EverQuest, Bradford McQuadicus, via Johnboy Smedley were well aware of RMT happening on EQMac and P99 (in its early days) and were getting a cut of the massive, massive profits. Smedley was the President of Daybreak at the time.

So everyone agrees this was all a coverup to the largest RMT in p99 history? Is that what this is saying and I was always right
I definitely think it's possible. I'd like to think people really are super rad sometimes and give away elite items to players, but based on how hyper competitive p99/eq is, your theory actually sounds much more likely.
Go have a whiskey and a drive Rumham.

There's the legality of it but also if people are already mega sweatlords about in game money, if RMT became authorized there's a lot more camps that would never be open again.

Did your source mention a cocaine-fueled Yacht party?
Back in the day, playing EQMac, there was someone who claimed to be privy to these events.
Strangely, almost 10 years later, I ran into someone on p99 Green that corroborated the stories, and wondered how I knew about it.

I can’t believe I was so right about this it’s like I read it years ago and have been thinking about it since and now I finally come back to game and say it and it’s all true it’s crazy and really makes me wonder what other stuff in life I was always right about
