View Full Version : F*CK cartoons nowadays

I've suffered in silence for long enough.
Cartoons nowadays are SUCH mind numbing, painful, rubbish and if I knew the flotsam suckers in charge I'd punch them in the neck.
I'm not talking about Shrek, and the CG era of movies, nor the Simpsons / Family Guy etc, this is more a rant at kids cartoons.
When I was a child of 5-~11? I would set my little alarm clock to wake up an hour early or race home after school to watch whatever was available at the time, because it was worth it, they were the shit!
I'm a tad young (23) to recall the He-Man, Shera, Tigercats era but I can get on board with them! They're entertaining and reasonable!
I guess you could say Spongebob is good, but it's a little HERP for me, despite the dual audience writing.
The Smoggies, Duck Tales, Chip & Dale , The Raccoons, Batman, The Carebears, Gargoyles (underappreciated!)...the list goes on.
Personally I think our generation had the best children's programming ever!

I rest my case.
(ok I kind of cheated, it's a theatre release but I think I burned out our old VHS player watching this as a kid! the eurotrash bad guys are my favourite. the song at 34:30 still makes me wanna dance.)

I agree (i'm 24) but then i wonder if all people eventually come to realise that life sucks, and the rose-tinted glasses you look at your childhood with make you think the cartoons you watched were the best.
The raccoons was awesome ^.^
Alvin and the chipmunks, dungeons and dragons, heathcliff, the centurions, captain planet, eek the cat, pinky and the brain, rocko's modern life,
wacky races, flintstones jetsons (still classics)
I spent alot of my childhood watching cartoons :)

My only real complaint with most modern cartoons, especially CN stuff, is how ADD they are.

I'm 27, and I think a lot of the stuff you listed sucks compared to what I watched when I was a kid. Although I would say your cartoons are better than what the kids watch now. I guess I'm not sure what you mean by "our generation".

I end up stoned on the ouch a lot of Saturday mornings at around ten in the morning and let me tell you: He-Man and She-Ra are not as good as you remember them being. They're fucking awful. I watch 'em anyway, though.

I've considered the rose-coloured glasses argument.
Try watching Spliced on teletoon for 10 minutes and tell me you didn't walk away disgusted, and dumber for it.

When was the last time you watched Thundercats? The show was pretty awful. I say keep it "good" in your memories and never try to rewatch it.
Although the 2011 version looks promising.

Gummy Bears was amazing.
Looney Tunes. What could be a better morning than watching Sylvester take his son fishing at the aquarium? Star Blazers was good. Dungeons & Dragons. The Pink Panther with all the others that came with it. Heck even as I got older I even liked X-Men and the Tick. The Tick cracked me up.

That D&D cartoon was kind of dumb, but i still watched it.
The Tick wasn't a cartoon btw, it was a re-enactment of awesome.

It's good so many people here appreciate gargoyles. It was really a fantastic show. City of Stone (all four parts) is one of my favorite episodes of any TV show.

A couple friends and I actually had a conversation similar to this last week.
The quality of cable television in general has gone down the shitter. In the 80s and early 90s there were programs you could actually sit down as a family and watch (Family Matters, Step by Step, Full House, etc), or shows kids would watch that would make them want to...go outside and play! None of you can say you never once went outside as a kid and pretended to be a Ninja Turtle or whatever with your friends/siblings/cousins/whatever. Beating the crap out of each other on the lawn? Awesome, do it.
But NO...now the world has become a bunch of mouth breathing pussies and idiots. Everyone is either too afraid to do anything or too God damned stupid to think for themselves (see MTV). Fuck, I can't even watch The Simpsons anymore because it just depresses me and reminds me of how awful America has gotten since I was a kid.
I'm just gonna stop here before this turns into a 20 page rant about how the generation above us and below us are a bunch of jackasses.
