With EQL announced, and MNM around the corner, what does it mean for P99 servers?

A lot of us are incredibly pumped about EQL, MNM, but what does this imply for p99 ?

It's been a long time since we have had visibility on the future of the project, many people have left red and blue, whilst a lot of folks have migrated to Green or Quarm.

From a CCU perspective, Red is almost inactive, blue is seriously dwindling with players struggling to experience group content under lvl 50, and only green still thrives with a vibrant raid scene and a lot of opportunities for leveling.

So, what comes next for p99 servers as a whole?

Merge, Character Transfers, something else?

Some visibility / clarity on the future of p99 would be highly appreciated as players ready themselves for other classic experiences around the corner.

The p99 staff is rightly rewarded by DB for all these years of hard work but does that mean they will abandon the initial work that brought them there?

I think at the very best and most generous analysis the experienced and successful(ish) players on a competitive emulated raid server from 2000 know firsthand the wilderness of solitude. The level of competition for pixels here is or was such that it shaped oral history. One does not poop into a sock without a mandatory minimum of solitude: yes or no?

The huge influx in population within the last 6-9 months on Green (upon which I can't say I have any experience or knowledge leveling or anything) I think could well be seen as a recession indicator IRL. Gainfully employed people, even if they can't make friends outside of work, probably are less likely to raid pixels for hours in their off hours. And isolated people find solace and relief or at least a sense of it through various means.

I've made relationships through this game with real people who played this game. I've grown friend to and with people I have met IRL from what ultimately is this nerdy nerd server for nerds after some form or fashion. But even when I fought as part of a virtual raid guild I maintained and participated freely IRL in life's social circles and have been humbled and gratified with the objective, even written, feedback as positive and consistent.

I had no problems dropping raids and discord when I became fruitfully busy in concert with my flesh and blood friends and taking them into consideration above pixels because I had relationships and "game" to create and find them apart from work and family IRL.

Good friends, companions, and associates are the whole of the spiritual life said someone. It's hard to have any life at all when you're suffering; if you can't find friends nor have game IRL then they are just as much a whole of one's physical life and mental health or lack thereof. Some things pixels cannot buy and if certain players put as much diligence into getting good at real social game as much as another elf simulation then I feel like they may find raiding unappealing and be mentally healthier for it. I'm not certain more EverQuest is really what anybody really needs including the sweatlords.

As someone who really likes MnM and who also really likes P99, I don't think MnM is going to affect P99's population at all. I honestly think most of the people I've met on P99 don't even have real gaming PCs that are capable of running modern games, nor would they ever pay money to play a game etc. MnM is also still somewhat of a mystery for me.... even as someone who enjoys it immensely. It's hard to tell how fun an MMO is long-term. There's been many MMOs I really enjoyed for a couple of months and then never played again. It'll be interesting to see what MnM feels like a year into launch.

Also I made a post about a p99 convention in Las Vegas sometime awhile ago and it was the #1 post for a month running, so theres definite interest there.

There was mod on the official EQ reddit who had no connection to Daybreak but was banning people left and right for things he did himself (being abusive etc). Off his own back HE decided there wasn't to be any more talk of P99/Quarm/etc on the official EQ reddit and referred everyone to a dead subreddit to discuss things there.

I think it's pretty clear from Rogean's lack of updates on p99 over the last few years (and possibly longer) that the server merge isn't happening. There will be no new Green.

It probably has a lot to do with his work on EQ Legends, and it probably scratches his classic EQ itch enough to leave the development work to Nilbog -- but just by updating stuff to be classic, and not in preparation for a new server.. but again to scratch Nilbog's itch for recreating classic.
