View Full Version : Merge Blue and Green, make Warders blockers for Sleeper, add Sleeper loot table

We all enjoy playing this old, old game, however the vast majority of us have never even experienced fighting Warders and have never seen the Sleeper.
Merging blue and green would consolidate players, build larger guilds, and forge a new, larger, better raid meta by giving access to an entirely new raid zone (Sleeper's tomb, whose content is basically inaccessible/wasted currently). Get rid of the current permanent 'wake' mechanic--killing the warders now 'wakes' the sleeper, making it engageable like Vulak instead. ST respawns on quake.
This would require minimal effort from the developers, and add minimal new content (a Sleeper loot table), a new meta, and completely refresh the raid scene.
People saying 'non classic'--well of course its not, but there are plenty of mechanics in P99 that aren't exactly classic, and the net positive from these changes would turn P99 into something truly magical for us aging players and our kids who are starting to play.

Sleeping the sleeper might be the dumbest custom content we could hope for.
Tiny hybrids are easy and better than warder loot.

P99 tries to replicate a clean play experience without custom content. I enjoy and respect that. The idea I put forth tries not to disturb that while allowing players to experience something fresh that was intended to be playable Velious content. To be clear, I'm not pitching any 'funserver' ideas here, this is a conservative change.

You don't really need to do this because there will be Green 2.0 at some point. So you'll be able to do ST content on the next server.

It's not that I want to just see it once, I think it'd be nice to have it as a regular part of raiding. It would make quakes just a little more interesting every time, don't you think? And not just at server start, as part of the regular rotation. The number of players that has moved from casual to raider has increased over the years, so the raid scene now has an over abundance of players and not enough bosses to kill.

Adding back extinct npcs, creating a ring-style event, making a nigh-unkillable target able to be killed, adding unique loot to this new encounter.
There are at least a dozen mild tweaks that they could make that would make more sense than trivilaizing a non-trivial moment in EQ history.
Whatever they could do without getting pulled into court would be fun(CT 2.0, SS 2.0, Shawl Quest+, etc). I just don’t think Sleeper Raid is it.

No, not really. This is a classic server. We like it that way.
As far as your last sentence, that's just a symptom of not merging and starting a new server quickly enough. If you got into a consistent cadence there, then it would be fine.

You do know a lot of things are not classic here. Aoe mob limit. Recharge prices. Resists and armor class. And many more.

Yeah, and some of those are Titanium client limitations or otherwise things we can't find clear classic evidence about. Others are non-classic changes that a lot of people here don't like.
Don't think anyone feels like we need to change a major mechanic to bring back certain NPCs so people can have a loot pinata forever. There are games that exist for that.

The game ending at sleeper awakening is an arbitrary end point.
This project is already a forever piñata by its nature but we aren't shutting off warlord spawns after 150 tstaff even though every single monk having a tstaff is hella not classic.

What I'm getting from these responses, is, we need to wake the sleeper immediately on next server launch as a protest to these old dogs that 'been there done that' and want to gatekeep this content from the rest of us.

Next server hopefully be 1 superguild that locks down all 5 key dragons for as long as possible so they can farm warders repeatedly with competition. As soon as an opposing force shows up, wake the sleeper.

If you only care about BIS, aren't following 4 the only 'warder loot' that have relevance?
1. Shroud of Longevity - One of the most OP gear that is monk only, no drop
2. Mask of Tinkering - extra illusion for BRD/ROG, tradeable
3. Sceptre of Destruction - one of the best passive agro weapon, dps twink gear that is not lore and tradeable
4. Salindrite Dagger - tradeable, best tradeable rog dps dagger, excellent BRD/RNG twink dps gear, but probably too much agro for raids, and possibly groups

This whole discussion is just pointless because they are never going to have warders keep spawning after the Sleeper is awakened. It's just the way this server is.

the point of warder loot is to have it and then nobody else can get it

You guys are too focused on the loot. Imagine having an extra raid zone to compete over every quake with new batphone targets. That’s the value here.

Custom servers only are fun for IP plaintiff attorneys.
All that pesky law stuff aside, our servers kill Tunare and AoW every week on repop. That sure as hell wasn’t something casual raiders did in 2001 (or at all).

Said it before. It's not Classic to be in forever-Velious and /list and legacy item drop rates weren't Classic either. So why pretend to care about what's Classic?
Rotating legacy items included respawned warders makes sense. I'd suggest that they were re-released on the original timeline so every few years Warders repop, perhaps require a new ST key along with it. Same would go for manastone, beads etc with camps being back again every few years.
