I've been root rotting mobs and occasionally when they break root and run towards me i land another root but they look like they are still running towards me. When this happens the mob will port back to where the root landed and i can reapply DoTs to kill it. If DoT damage kills the mob during this time the corpse is transported to where I am located, xp is given however the corpse is not able to be looted. If a DD spell kills the mob I am able to loot the mob where it dies.
not sure if this is a pathing issue, a root rot issue, or maybe its an issue specifically with skeletons as that it the mob most commonly where this bug occurs.

Is this in Grobb? If so I've experienced the same strange issue.
My work around was a light left/right strafe, sends them back to their rooted position.

This clearly sounds like a bug, but as a workaround for the looting part, have you tried to /target the mob, then /loot to loot it? Sometimes that lets you access otherwise impossible-to-loot corpses.

Not that I'm very knowledgeable, but believe this is a known client desync issue. Server thinks you are somewhere else but client says your proper location. Same thing with mob position, the corpse dies in a spot your client believes it is, but server places the actual body elsewhere.
I don't know what they can do to fix it, probably only rogean can but dunno. This was common on live, mobs walking into a wall on your screen but in reality they never stopped moving. They right in front of you on your screen but you get the "out of range" message
