Daybreak ( Apr 29, 2015 ):

"We’re proud that the EverQuest community is one of the most passionate and engaged groups of players in the gaming world. We’re glad we were able to reach an agreement with the team behind the fan-based, not-for-profit emulation project as they continue to share their love of EQ with many."

>>

Daybreak already has link to their EQ client on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/205710/EverQuest/

( I am pretty sure it is "Rain of Fear" client )

>>

Just below "System Requirements" Daybreak could have unobtrusive links for pre-patched P99 clients ( Titanium clients that already includes patch file ( v61 ) with Duxa UI / etc ) [blue 1.0 / green2.0 / teal 2.0 / red 2.0 / p99 test / p99 pearl / etc )

Would be great if those clients supported patchers.

>>

Of the $25, Steam takes their cut first, then p99 project gets $5, and the rest goes to DBG.

>>

getting titanium cd on ebay is a total ripoff:

Hello Ma'am, I'm sure you heard of an encyclopedia, well I sell the best of the lot, Brittanica! For affordable monthly payments your family can grow every day, learning new facts about our modern world, right at home!

Or if you wish, Ma'am, you can pay $25 dollars for this free to play version run by people who actually care about encyclopedias.

"not-for-profit emulation project"

"then p99 project gets $5"

does not compute

If P99 was easy to install it would be way, way, way, way, way, WAY more popular. I have had a ton of WoW buddies who know how into EverQuest I am, who decide they want to invite themselves into P99... and quickly realize they have no idea how to even install the game. And I'll be honest, I have issues installing it as well in the rare event I have to. I do all the weird stuff too with the HD textures, DUXA etc, so it's a lot more processes. I don't really have a great excuse for this though since I have an external hard-drive specifically for gaming, I should just finalize it, but at the same time I'm scared to mess with it.

Over the years I have had a few inexplicable situations where P99 would crash for me for no apparent reason, or anytime I zoned. And crashed in a big way, where I couldn't log back in. Makes me scared to mess with it TOO MUCH.

This is possible if you register as a developer and then just never release it so you can easily play on steam deck.

I have yet to try eq on steam deck:

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamdeckrefurbished/

Displayed 5 refurbished units but they were all:

"Out of Stock"

On Walmart see following:

I am wondering if can run eq on rpi?

this.

we desperately need new people but the install process is a good moat to keep the riff raff out

we lower the drawbridge at our own peril.

While we're at it, does anyone else have any free associated suggestions to share with DBG regarding P99?

This would be an awful business idea for DBG. Live EQ sucks ass, but they make a fair amount of money off of it. Creating a pipeline for people to go play P99 wouldn't make sense for them. If you assume a live EQ player switches to P99 once Daybreak puts that link up, Daybreak would've made way more money off that player on live EQ than they'd make off of some sort of sale of P99 access.

I think it would raise some interesting legal questions as well. Meaning, you'd be selling an emulated server that you don't run or assist with...while Daybreak is fully entitled to monetize their IP, they'd also essentially be monetizing the efforts of Rogean, Nilbog, and the ongoing work of the CSR staff, which $5 per sale certainly wouldn't cover.

if they officially hosted the old titanium client for download it would give them an ever so small reputation boost with the emu community.

or heck, release the source code to some of the older clients and let people host emu servers on DBG's hardware, server owner charged a monthly or annual fee.

neither would ever happen but there is clearly an audience for it.

Now these are some sensical ideas.

Hey, we're okay with you running your emu but you have to pay to host it on our server mainframe.

Would be awesome if they released older clients too so you could get things like the old sky graphics, some of the mechanics from classic that the Titanium client doesn't support (IIRC), etc.

Wouldn't really risk harm to Daybreak's bottom line or expansion of emulated server populations, while also providing some additional incremental revenue.

There's a lot of normal people who can't install it. I've spent hours trying to help my friends set it up over Discord. Even now I'm in a situation where I'm going to have to install the game for the first time in years, and I dread doing it, and don't even know if the Titanium files still exist anymore etc.

I think this is for sure one of the main advantages of Quarm is the fact that it's much more user friendly to install. I'll always be a P99 main when it comes to EQ, but I'm being honest.

Have you tried applying the P99 patch to the Quarm download without applying the discord files?

P99, if we all recall is for players with the original files, not DLed from some black pearl site.
It is for us to relive original EQ using those files.
Any change from that way of playing could be seen as "taking potential customers/money" from the IP owners.

Im sorry if this wrecks anyones day who lives in a deluded world where DBG loves this game as we do and wants to see it to thrive in the emu sphere. They do not.
Why do you think it is expressly forbidden to share files or even share links to titanium files here?
P99 devs do/did it correctly.
THJ tried to burn it all down when caught monetizing IP they did not own.

Titanium files are never gonna be shared by DBG. Anywhere.

I mean that's a tough one because I still own multiple copies of EverQuest, Kunark, Velious, Luclin etc. Still have all of the manuals, multiple cloth EverQuest maps, Prima's EQ strategy guides etc. but I don't think I own a single disc labeled EverQuest Titanium. I feel like I may be one of the only modern Americans who actually still has a disc drive in their modern computer too  I honestly wouldn't mind paying for EQ Titanium on Steam though if it meant an easier installation in the future.

I'm actually unsure where I put my disc drive but there's an empty slot in the front of my computer for it. Bad computer owner here.

Had to take it out when the power button panel wire fell out and have seen no reason to put it back.

I have a laptop so old it has a cd/dvd drive.
I used to still own 1 disc set each of original, kunark and velious in boxes + (the tiny) mouse pad and maps. The rats decided they needed a nest more though. It was next to old school text books and notes that they left untouched...

i do play them, but they dont scratch the itch for classic everquest. to me p99 would be worth $15/month, but they won't even consider that as an option. prob because kronos is too big of a $$$

Never understood why people say P99 is hard to install. You download EQ Titanium ISOs and install EQ as normal using those (every computer has a virtual drive now). You download the P99 file zip file and copy the files in the directories in the zip into the relevant directories in your EQ folder. It's one of the simplest installs out there.

Remember when you had to have a separate Mount utility to mount ISOs for installs like Titanium? Gawd those were the days

This used to be so common a GM asked me to write this: https://wiki.project1999.com/Everquest_Titanium_Installation_Guide.

But now I think everyone either gets it from a zip file in a shared drive, or from the Internet Archive (which also packages it as a Zip file) ... so all those screenshots were taken for nothing :(
