austin is pretty hip. I lived there for about 8 months and enjoyed it. san antonio is miserable in the summer, stay far far away imo.

It's 106 degrees in dallas right now.
All the major cities in Texas are OK. Austin is probably the best, but nothing wrong with DFW or Houston. I've lived in NYC, DC and SF and I wouldn't mind living in Austin.

I'd recommend staying in California... why would you want to leave?
There are a ton of hot white girls in Texas though. So if that's your main draw, go for it-

I grew up in Austin. Most would tell you it's the best city in Texas but it depends on your personality. Dallas has pro sports but you can travel to see that stuff if you want. Houston has smog and shitty, dumb people. Austin is laid back and has lots of outdoorsy stuff.
I graduated and am moving to San Antonio for a job, but would have preferred to be in Austin post college, honestly.
What do you do for a living? Could have an impact too.

Dude its hot for a few months but the DFW area is amazing. I live in Arlington which is in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. The women are amazing as well as the people here. I moved here about 7 years ago. I couldnt imagine living anywhere else.
As far as Austin, it is a wild crazy college town. Again, a lot of women. I loce it!! But the traffic is brutal and the city itself is just so crowded.
San Antonio is also great. The Riverwalk is awesome! It is also close to the coast so beaches are within reach. It is a little more old fashioned of a city. Lot of "full figured" women there i have noticed. But hey they neef love too.
Arlington was also voted most affordable housing at one point based on the average sq footage Americans buy. I have a beautiful 1400 sq foot apartment that is $900 a month. It is also not very far from Austin/San Antonio if you want to go hangout.
Everything is bigger in Texas brew!

My family is from Shamrock, TX. don't go there.
If you like dust, dirt, heat, and amazing steaks go for Texas, Austin is cool, cool parties in San Antonio. Go for a beach and water if you do choose. Remember too that it was it's own republic once and people tend to think and act like they are from their own little independent country there.
Last bit of ramble: Go live somewhere without hell like temperatures in the summertime instead

Its day 31 in Dallas of 100plus degree weather, with no end in site. Ive lived in Kansas City, Las Vegas, Palm beach FL, and Arlington tx and all i have to say is stay in cali for the weather you will thank yourself later.
If u move to Texas, Austin is the place to be without question.

Too funny, this is my back yard too...was SO much better back in the late 70's early 80's. Now it's bad there, too crowded, bad elements, nothing really to do, hot as hell, etc...
I went to Pope, Shack, and then Lamar (class of 88)...in fact my mom taught at
Pope too. I remember when Cooper was a 2 lane road, and we used to cruise it!
As for where to move, N. Dallas area isn't too bad, but IMHO Austin is the place to be.
Also great place in regards to finding work w/ pretty good pay plus being able to keep most of it due to paying low taxes (esp. if living in apt - no prop tax).
Make sure you know how to speak Spanglish - it helps!

i would go back to California. The 70 degree temps and the beaches are enough for me.
I live in Fort Worth. Dallas has an Overwhelming population of Black people. So if you like that, go to Dallas. Arlington is a great city. They got the Parks Mall.
We got a better Zoo, Museums, Water Gardens, Movie Theaters, Cultural Dsitricts,
The historic Stockyards, with 100+ year old Saloon's and bars. We got clubs. We got lots. You'd have to formulate you're own opinion.

Why don't you be more specific, and say "What's wrong with black people IN DALLAS?" instead?
Just walk downtown and see for yourself. Constantly being asked for Change, if you want to buy some rock, if you got a cigarette, ect. The McDonalds downtown even has a security guard specifically watching the bathrooms, and you have to show a receipt to get you're purchase, and a cup of water isn't free. This is because crackheads be tryin' to steal yo fuckin' bigmac son.

Same as Harlem. It's pretty bad this one time I was starving so went to the 125th st popeyes and some crackhead thug held the door for me while shaking an empty cup in my face, when I didnt give him change he almost assaulted me. This was like 2 in the afternoon, I won't even go near there at night. They hatin cuz I'm white yo

I agree, the thugs in downtown Dallas are exactly that, thugs. I also know the EXACT McD's you are talking about too. Will not go there at all. They really should do something to clean that area up ASAP. Most of these "thugs" are transplants that were placed here due to Katrina and have never left.
However, even though the majority are does not mean you have to categorize them as "black" though. Just call them what they are, "Thugs", "Crackheads", "Criminals", etc...
And yes, downtown Ft. Worth is better than downtown Dallas. Better police presence. Although there are the occasional street bums asking you for change and also taking baths in the water gardens. If you are asking what the water gardens are, just watch Logan's Run. The end of the movie has a scene w/ the Ft Worth Water Gardens in it. Of course Ft Worth does have it's bad areasd too like Rosedale. I wouldn't go there at night either!

Kman if you're serious about this talk with me and Shiftin. I'm from the Valley, went to HS in New Braunfels, UT for undergrad, Houston for work, then in San Marcos for grad school and hopefully back to Houston for dental school.
Austin is a great place to live for a few years but it's pricey as hell and if you don't live inside of the two highways you're fucked on traffic. Honestly I'm over Austin and doubt I would ever want to live there again but I love Houston.
Again it's all about where you're able to live in these cities. People who live on the outskirts of Houston seem to hate it but I lived in the Galleria area and it was an incredible place to live, Rice Village is really cool too.
I have a serious dislike for Dallas but I imagine if I go there for school and live downtown I'd end up liking it.
Only advice I offer on Austin is make sure you have a job locked down before moving there, don't expect to show up there and fall into a lifestyle or income you're accustomed to. People are more educated, work for less, and pay more to live in Austin than anywhere else in the state. With that said, it's still probably the best place to live for 4-5 years prior to having a family.
