There was a ninja patch to channeling around 2022. No longer can an Ogre get max shrunk and stand with back in a corner to avoid spell interrupts.

[Sun Apr 20 14:56:43 2025] Decayed soldier hits YOU for 69 points of damage.

But is it classic yet? Someone tell me if a level 1 can still channel easily with 1 skill point.

Channeling was always too easy on P99

Agree with this. I remember trying to solo a a Cleric was fairly painful back in 1999. I could generally get one nuke off in the opener or pull (nuke always broke root if I chose to use it), and simply getting beat to death because I basically couldn’t cast a single spell once a mob was on me. Meanwhile my cleric on P99 face tanks mobs like it’s NBD, chain casting whatever I want, when I want ;)

Also I genuinely know that rogues could never tank mobs from the front while soloing :) but that’s a diff topic. Like yes I knew about frontal backstabs in PvP and jousted often, but it 100% never worked on mobs. Literally ever, if it did they wouldn’t have created chaotic stab as an AA because literally no one would have ever taken it. Instead it became a core ability for a reason ;)

I remember timing my casts to happen between enemy swings on live. I don’t even bother to consider bashes here.

Yeah definitely straight face tank casting on my gnome wizard right now. Get interrupted maybe 50% of the time standing in the open during combat taking hits, almost never standing with back against the wall. Seems like channeling isn't really a consideration (pretty sure those fails would show as fizzles?!?) that its actually mob push that causes the interrupts. Ogre shaman with frontal stun immunity almost never interrupted.

the brief time I played on Quarm really was eye-opening as to how busted channeling is here, I was told that it gets better there post 50 but my enc was getting beat to shit anytime charm broke early and couldn't even channel an aoe stun until the 30's.

Yeah IMO this is the thing that makes people think Enchanter charming isn't classic as a whole. The other mechanics are fine. It's that on live channeling was much harder and so if you were trying to cast while getting hit it was basically a total tossup on whether you'd survive (unless you were in the top end of the level range IIRC). A root break on top of a charm break? Forget about it.

I don’t get interrupted constantly, but max shrunk as an ogre with back shoved in a corner, and I still get interrupted like 25% of casts

do you get interrupted less when not shrunk? 25% seems wayyyy higher than my experience, but I never shrink myself on ogre.

Nope, same. I actually get interrupted almost as much as my barbarian shaman; with the exception of bashes not stunning and interrupting. But still get interrupted from melee attacks .

All of this before turgurs lands- but even with a turgurd mob, the ogre gets interrupted

This moron spent years stalking me on forums here whenever I pointed out that Enchanter was OP due to channeling.

Hilarious.

?

Literally like every time you went on some long-winded, whiny rant about Enchanters being non-classic in every way, I said the only thing we know is non-classic is channeling

It's been awhile (fortunately) since he posted his rants, but at one point in time IIRC he was essentially asserting that the entirety of the mechanics must be unclassic (Charm lasts too long, CHA has too much of an impact, etc.) without providing direct evidence to support it outside of anecdotal claims (such as well people didn't charm kill extensively in 1999 so it must be unclassic on here).

CHA has too much of an impact

I'm under the impression Torven or another TAKP affiliate proved that one true with an era-client decompile.
