I'm sure there are many other worst luck situations. Ive been camping the ancient for the leggings for days now and currently have 8 gatorscale sleeves and 0 leggings. I have read that this is a 50/50 drop rate. What are the odds of flipping a coin and getting tails 8 times in a row?

You're missing a variable.

Pink Tail is an ultra rare drop from the Flan Princess, found in the Lunar Subterrane in a very specific room. Pink Tail has a 1/64 (1.56%) chance of dropping from the Flan Princess that has a 1/64 chance of appearing. Pink Tail is a required item to get the Adamant Armor, the strongest armor.

Sometimes I get semi burnt out and camp stuff in EQ while playing other console games
And once I rode the AC camp to level 43(or 42, its been years) from 35

I had 4 full 8 slot bags full of sleeves before a single leg
other times i had healthy 25/75 splits
and one golden boy character had a 50/50 split

while the wiki is nice for most things it cannot factor in the Gamblers Fallacy

It's possible the wiki is just wrong about the drop rate on this camp too

All this nah-nah statistics mean that what should be common could also be rare shit is dumb. Yeah everyone learns that in 8th grade, that doesn't mean statistical oddities are never noteworthy

The wiki's %'s here are obviously wrong, the context is more important here in that it notes the sleeves are "(Common)" and the legs are "(Rare)", legs are definitely the more rare item, probably 80/20 drop rates.

I'd assume most drops are like that.

However, I apologize. I cleared that camp, let it repop, ancient croc spawned, dropped gatorscale leggings first kill, only hung out for like 18 minutes.

On the flip side, I was camping the ass / sup room for almost 3 hours and never saw the assassin or the supplier during that time. Not a ton of spawns on a 28 minute timer but still, damn.

Warlord Skarlon does not appear to drop mithril arms anymore - or if so, it is incredibly rare. We kill this guy almost daily and after weeks, I have not seen a single pair of arms. I have accumulated about 3 - 10 slot bags full of mithril legs and have deleted 4 or 5 Razing Swords. Zero mithril arms.
The % chance between arms and legs is almost identical.

The arms are definitely dropping as they should. Your luck sounds quite bad!

Pretty sure all pre-Kunark (especially pre-Hole) named stuff had 'common' and 'rare', where 'rare' was either 1/6 or 1/9, and 'common' was always the remaining (5/6 or 8/9). From my experience 1/9 is more likely the case, anything from FBSS to Crown of King Tranix, SMR, SSoY, Hooded Black Cloak, Runed-mithril Bracer, Pegasus Cloak, and so on. Spawn rate of a 'named' was probably 1/6 or 1/9, probably closer to 1/6. Almost sure mithril arm is the 'rare' while mithril leg is 'common', I don't think there was any 50/50 split drops for pre-Kunark.

Out of everyone here I think Nilbog would know the best about drop rates. If he says they are dropping as they should then that means they are reflective of the best source we can possibly find as to drop rates.

Okay, so when I was probably like 17... (I'm 40 now)..... I camped Gatorscale leggings for so long... I started hallucinating and going insane and having meltdowns. It's the only time in my entire life I suffered from psychosis like this BTW. I remember after like 24 hours, I refused to go to sleep. No idea how many days I stayed awake. There was no PNP either, so you would have random high level Wizards just show up and sit there waiting to try and snipe and stuff. Completely snapped.

I did eventually get the leggings though.

More recent event... I camped Drake Hide Leggings for my ENC. There is way better upgrades I could have just bought, but I wanted more classic stuff. Took me 2 days to get them. Like I actually saw the same leggings for sale in EC Tunnel, but at that point I was too invested. Normally when I pass through these leggings drop non-stop, and I don't even care about them.

I think that's part of what makes the loot in EQ magical though. Stuff being ultra rare but then also ultra common etc.

Decided my new war would have a fbss (farmed by my wiz). Yes, I already had spare schw stashed away somewhere like everyone else, or could buy more for a paltry 700pp, but I wanted to gear this alt on things I had specifically farmed for it. How long could a 10% drop on a 25% spawn take? Like 3 evenings?

Over a week later of daily play breakfast, lunch and evening. I finally had my fbss. Not such an unlucky streak, but resonating with the vibe and still proudly sporting that fbss.
