View Full Version : When was the official ToD of p99 Green?

5 + years in, and it sure feels pretty empty round here. As to be expected with a time locked server. When was the ToD? Sleeper awakened? Velious year 2?
For my money the best era was late Kunark. The gear wasn't crazy overpowered yet - no 24 hour spawn windows... Everyone in raiding guilds had Twink alts that carried groups all over Norrath. Many zones were full of groups, many places to choose from of you were grouping (RiP Cazic Thule, Splitpaw, the Hole, etc) and thr TUNNEL was alive with commerce.
Now it's a bunch of raiders holding on for their last BiS items before retiring. There's like 6 total zones to group in from 30-60. And mostly every toon is a twink. Tunnel is pretty evenly split WTB and WTS stuff. (used to be way more sellers and way larger range of items for sale).

Blue was alpha, green was beta.
edit: imho The newbie zones need to be got right before real launch. There have been some good steps in this direction, I must acknowledge.

Servers still pretty lively if you avoid the raiding scene. While there is a path you have to follow you can get groups most hours of the day.
Even the raiding scene is pretty lively honestly. Tuesday night quake had lots of contested dwagins

I mean killing the sleeper in a time locked server that doesn't progress past velious is about as dumb as it gets but aside from that Green is alive and well.
The raiding scene is obviously the majority of the livlihood of the server, and would be for any server that's time locked for years as it provides the only remaining sense of scarcity or rarity in the game.
Pretty sure that other than a pop the quarm server had within the first few months of launch that P99 Green continues to be the most alive classic server there is.

Guys you know what OP is saying, we don't need to bandy about with "oh well technically Green is still alive" and "people raid" etc.
On both servers the pop isn't great and you're not really getting a true EQ experience unfortunately. For Green, I would say that "death" came maybe like a year or so ago? Once you hit Velious it's tough to keep longevity as after a year or so of that I think pop inevitably starts to fall off.
Just need a merge, let there be one server for a little bit, and then add a second server!

Pre-Kunark, when everyone is leveling up in the classic zones, is peak EQ. 3 continents is just too much for a low-pop emu server. It spreads the population too thin at lower levels and eventually funnels everyone onto the CoM->Karnor's treadmill post-40.
If a guild wakes sleeper and loses a quest to resleep the sleeper would be pretty sweet.
GM event obviously where a dragon is played by a gm who perma mezzes Kerafyrm.
Or have i missed the whole point of why top guilds equip everyone with sleepers tomb BIS then deny pixels?

Yeah.. Waking sleeper is classic but super douche. I like the idea of putting them back down but illusive pixels are not going to fix the server population. There are plenty of raiders and the last thing anyone wants is a bunch of legacy players coming back to spend their horde of dkp before they vanish again.

I can't speak for green specifically, but when Quarm launched that was the first time I was like "wow this server might actually be dead soon" about blue.
Somehow it's still trudging along though.
sunk cost, people stayed on Shards of Dalaya after p99 launched for a good couple years also.

It's not sunk cost fallacy. It's because people legitimately still enjoy playing their characters

Nothing to do with sunk cost for me. I've seen what Quarm has to offer and I'm just not personally interested. But I can see why others are.
The real issue is we now have at least 5 popular servers that I can think of for those interested in a classic EQ experience and there just isn't enough of a community to spread between them all.

If you take away people's DKP there's nothing left to stay for...imagine having 100s of hours of raid points while chasing 1-2 rare drops and then just quitting before you get them.

Even if post sleeper awakening the devs kept the warders around, how much would it add to a server in the grand scheme of things?
Would be pretty cool if they reset ST once a year or whatever. Wouldn't be classic but in a time locked server that doesn't progress beyond the awakening, why not.
