Does giving 4 muffins reset Hasten's coin inventory as well? Or just resets the items that have been given to him? Heard secondhand about a failed JBoots MQ today where the inventory supposedly was cleared by the buyer with 4 muffins. The MQ seller handed in the Ring and the Rapier and, to his disappointment, received the Jboots. Presumably someone sabotaged the seller with the gold ahead of time.
thanks

The following things do not reset quest mob inv: killing it, giving it items
the following thing resets quest mob inventory: completing the quest, a scheduled server reset (every 30-40 days)
GMs will not help you with MQ troubles. MQ at your own peril

What is different about a mob spawning on a server restart VS respawning after it's been killed, on a technical level? Cause their normal inventory certainly resets.

How the database field being used gets reset. Killing it doesnt reset the space the quest script is using

So somebody can troll\grief every quest npc in the game by just handing them one of the turn in items at any time? Cause that sucks.

If a quest needs items A B C and D to complete, but the npc is already holding item C, what happens if somebody comes along and hands in all four items? Does the duplicate item C just get merged into the existing item C and the quest finished normally? Or can the server think you handed in 2x item C plus two others and eat all of them?

It should credit the extra c for the next player, but a few times p99 has been shown to have quest glitches dissimilar to the live experience so i am interested to see if anyone has investigated more thoroughly.

Muffin trick does not work on P99. Only a server reset clears quest inventory.
(As to the origin of the "muffin trick" rumor - was it some post-Velious mechanic? Or was it implemented on some other custom server?)
I don't know what to tell ya. It sucks this happened. I can't think of a way to prevent it.

So... wouldn't this mean that any npc that gets "out of sync" mq wise will eff up every single attempted turn in until a legitimate "server reset"? Does a quake reset this inventory? Something is not adding up.

Yea I see what you’re saying. What happens if you give hasten 500 shadowed rapiers and 500x3250 gold. Does that mean the next 500 Ring of the Ancient Turn ins are not MQable?

You should see a quest NPC as a portal for you to interact with a quest inventory. Killing it doesn't remove or reset the inventory, it just closes the portal until respawn. A full server restart (NOT a quake, but a full restart) resets everything like its a full reboot.
If a quest needs A/B/C/D to complete, someone hands in C, and someone else hands in A/B/C/D, the following happens: player #2 gets the item reward for handing in A/B/D, the only items needed. Player 2 then also hands in C, which wasn't needed, once more stacking the NPC with item C.
This is why you should, if you are able to do so (i.e. if you are completing a quest yourself), hand in items one at a time. If the NPC was messed up, you 'fix' the NPC this way by completing the item, and you get to keep the item that someone else already handed in.
This stuff is often used on velious quest turnins because some gems are cheap, so people try to fish for free items by turning in just the gems.

Thanks that all makes sense. It also explains why staff do not litigate MQ misfires and I don't blame them.

Yeah I think I asked about this in guild chat several months ago. Regular items won't clear the quest item queue (common misconception). I believe the quest item turn in status is separate from the mob's overall inventory of other items received.
So the muffins wouldn't affect anything but if, for instance, someone had handed him a shadowed rapier and then rolled out and two people MQing showed up and the person with the ring handed him the ring and the gold, then it would trigger the JBoots to be given out to that person instead of the person with the new rapier who was planning to turn it in as the next step. Usually if someone before you has messed up the turn in queue it's not deliberate, they probably just messed it up accidentally and the results carried over to you.
This is I believe the reason why the GMs won't help you if an MQ goes wrong. They have no control over players screwing up the quest turn in queue that way and so it's an at your own risk situation.

I’ve always wondered if I made a rogue and sat in Rathe mountains with hide on waiting to turn a rapier in to snipe someone’s MQ if I would get in trouble 😹 it seems like a rogue thing to do

Honestly if you had an AC ring on you and could pretend you had seriously been prepared to turn in, this might work lol

Man, I hope someone starts walking around with extra black marbles / flawless diamonds / pristine emeralds and just decides to give them a toss to the SS NPCs. I think we'd hear the screams across the globe for that one.
I'm not usually a fan of douchery, but this could easily break the market if done consistently. 3 gems per quake for a few quakes and everyone would 2nd guess doing the MQ's.

People already do this because sometimes it nets you a free 50k mq for the price of 3 cheap gems

why not give the rapier to the buyer as well and maybe since there are only so many sahdowman camps you can probably use AI to track shadowman kills to identify the saboteur?
