How much trouble would I get in if I just start systematically killing Hasten, or killing him anytime I see these same dagger-eared cretinous worms advertising that Hasten is up? Nobody holds a "monopoly" on the AC camp just get in line and wait and you'll get a ring like everybody else. Or pop into Sro every night at 9pm for a chance at the FFA one. I have had zero issue getting myself jboots on all four of my green chars.

I don't think so, but I think it *is* a rule that you can't just get a ring, corpse it right there, and continue camping AC. The list must always advance when a ring drops. The MQ seller is free to get back on the end of the list though.

Yesterday I did the Rod of Insidious Glamour and Incandescent Quests even though I could have easily bought better upgrades with less time involved. I spent half a day camping Drake Hide Leggings, and a Light Burlap Sack and Evil Eye. In reality I could farm plat and buy these items or even better items faster than I could quest or camp a lot of these items. But that's not fun for me.

I like to play the game the way it was intended. But that becomes increasingly difficult when you have the same Druids jumping in front of you trying to snipe mobs you just cleared the PHs for. Like clockwork. Say what you will about Quarm, but making Ring of the Ancients a legacy item would be a brilliant change if you want the game to be true to classic. Because I never met anyone who had 30 corpses with Ring of the Ancients in 1999. In fact most of my friends never even got their jboots before innate running speed and horses were added.

Well as you can see from that post, AC farming isn't very profitable for those people these days. No one is really rolling alts anymore. And any new arrivals to the server are rolling like their first char and don't have the plat for the MQ yet. So the market is not nearly what it used to be.

Also: jboots kinda suck. Sow pots are very significantly faster. I have jboots on my rogue, but I still just buy sow pots cause they are much better. Jboots are for emergencies for me now because they're instant cast but that's about it.

I have killed the Ac so many times I have levelled from 49 to 54 with 67% into 54, four months ago.
I have been playing on another server the last four months.
I came back 3 weeks ago, I camped the Ac to Level 55 over four days.(longest camp six hours) In that time I managed to get 5 rings.
The bonus weekend came along and I was playing another toon. I rarely camp the AC at the weekend. I have noticed since returning the AC camp is open. I was killing Gornit for four hours last week and ac was open for that four hours.
Four months ago I was getting 6 rings a week and selling them at the weekend, This is a lot of hours per week! I managed to get my druid epic last week, Yes I paid for it!

When I camp the AC I follow the List rules, I get-Next person on list etc..

I play eq a lot..but I'm on euro times, which is why I sell at weekends. The tunnel is Dead during the week my time.

I see the same ppls week in week out, selling the same stuff, Fungi tunic, Chitchin, Spells, Gems, Goblin skins, Braziers, Forlorn , Chardok Drops, Seb, etc. I mean you try getting a A ferocious hammerhead camp?
HG farming, Paineel, Felwithe, the list goes on in fact if it is worth camping it generally is. I`m not including Guild sellers. Yet no posts?

So why do the same/some ppls keep posting hatred for ac camp?

Most posts are a lie, or bending of the truth at least.

As I said the Ac camp is open, I do not have discord no tunnel thingy for me. Ohhh I do have Gina?.

There seems to be A snobbery when it comes to the AC camp with some ppls I have no idea why, I think they are Karen's/Kens. They insert there victim excuse into the post but is basically a complete Lie.
They believe the game has to be played there way and should only be interested in the same things as them, they do not take into account the human behind the screen may only have one hand IRL. and the software to help is %$%$%$ crap.
or they are looking after someone and need to go afk for a min often. blah blah.

None of this applies to me. I`m as thick as shit and a crap PPL.

Erm, Jboots is prob the best clickie in the game for every class in outdoor zones. By the time necromancers can get Words of Darkness they should be able to easily solo the AC... assuming it's not camped by someone who already has the boots, which it almost always is.

In yalls defense, your corpses just happened to be in front of me when I was making the thread. I'm not actually that mad and was joking around with my friends on Discord about how anytime I see someone advertising JBOOTS MQ and HASTEN IS UP that I should gate to RM and kill him. I was honestly just a little curious if something like that could be considered griefing and made this thread to get feedback.

The real inspiration for this thread was actually the Druid named Straggler. What he does IMHO would be considered actual griefing. Teleporting into S Ro every hour and using his Spirit of Wolf and levitate to purposefully run in front of whoever was already there clearing PHs. Like clock work. As he literally has multiple corpses that are within minutes or hours of decaying. Like how are we calling this playing nice, and not actual griefing? Because if this was literally any other MMO I've played if a high level player who clearly doesn't need an item only shows up to prevent other players who need the item from being able to get it, then that's actual griefing. Just keeping it real. And I can't actually imagine doing this or thinking it's good for the community.

Like I literally told someone in my guild who is playing a melee and can't really solo AC after AC to hold the camp in OOT if they can actually find the camp open, I'll gladly help them camp it until they get their ring. It's just weird to me to want to ruin this game for other players, often times in ways that seem mindless or illogical ie. having a ton fo rings that you know are going to rot anyways. I guess perhaps he sees this as a way of controlling the market and forcing players to have to go through him to get their jboots, but... all he's done is insure I will never buy jboots from him. And honestly, I have certain characters, like my Rogue, who will almost certainly have to buy an MQ. So I'm not against the service. I'm against the Druids who purposefully go out of their way to make sure other players can't get these items while they have dozens of the same items rotting at the same time.

This is not play nice. This is actual griefing.

Also for the people saying SoW potions are so much more elite and sick than jboots.... Ive literally had to use jboots on my druid / shamans before. SoW get dispelled, fades whatever while you're in the middle of kiting a tough mob, or in some instances I only had enough mana to finish the mob that's chasing me, not enough to SoW and do that... like it has a lot of uses... especially pre-kunark since there is no goblin skull earrings lol

IDK if P99 is still like this, but on the early days of Green anytime a ghoul rooted someone it would remove their SoW completely.

JBoots are a get out of jail free card for most classes in outdoor zones (unless you can FD) so they are absolutely useful regardless of if their run speed boost isn't that amazing. Plus outdoors they can be used as a clickie to reset GCD, so really useful if you don't have another item that you use for that.

I take your point on the S Ro Druid. The S Ro situation has always seemed odd to me. It's been awhile since I brushed up on the rules for Quillmane, but my understanding was in SK if people are clearing the PHs you can't come in and snipe Quillmane. But in S Ro you apparently can?

Based on the Wiki there seems to be conflicting info. The Wiki states:

"The AC has a single placeholder cycle, which may be Sandgiant Husam, a sand giant, a desert madman, barbarian male A Dervish Cutthroat, or a mummy. Out of all of these, the AC has a 10% chance of spawning in any spawn event. The AC or his PH will only spawn at night (9PM to 7AM in SRo) and has a 30.6 minute respawn timer. This classic placeholder cycle was revealed by EQ Dev Prathun in 2008 and confirmed by Nilbog in 11/18/2016."

But then someone added this note:

"IMPORTANT NOTE - As a long time Jboot farmer, I've never seen AC up at any point other than 9pm on Blue. He either spawns or he doesn't, no PH helps or hinders this process. Sro AC does indeed either spawn or not spawn at 9pm every game day, and he does have specific spawn locations all of which are in the sand\desert area of the zone, and at 9pm either he or a PH will spawn at one of those locations. I've gotten the sro ac four times on green, most recent one being about 2 weeks ago. Two of the times I've gotten him, he spawned in the exact same place which was approx -800, +1100 near where the sand meets the grassy area.

If you can pinpoint one of his spawn locations, just show up and stand right on it at 9pm and you might get lucky. Standing in the middle of the desert and trying to track\race for it usually doesn't work out and you just leave frustrated cause some douchey bard or druid with spirit of cheetah gets it.

I think it is market control. They'd rather loot a weeks worth of rings and have them start to rot/ go thru the work of recorpsing than allow them to regularly go less than the controlled price (5k?).

Yes it's very obnoxious for someone to levitate on top of you with Spirit of the Cheetah. I should know it took me 10 days of camping SRO to get my jboots. I made some friends who tried to help me as well, but in the end I got them during a quiet time when I was the only one in the zone.

One time it spawned and I wasn't fast enough to get to it and the merchants killed it lol.

It is griefing. In fact on TLPs where the PNP doesn't exist, I regularly log onto high level characters and induce actual full-on meltdowns when I begin to kill every single mob in the surrounding area of a group who kept stealing my low level character's mobs.

I think I actually have the VOD recorded when bedroom group in Lower Guk completely lost it when I killed every single mob outside of bedroom because they wouldn't stop stealing exe/cav mobs.

But this will be my last response to you before you're blocked indefinitely because I just remembered who you are and how annoying you are.

1) I play off hours. The camp is usually open these days. It's an easy camp to hold while working from home. Sometimes you get ring, sometimes you don't. Still gives xp to a 57 Druid. A pittance, but xp nonetheless!

2) Always, ALWAYS respect the list! I am genuinely excited for people when they get their AC rings. See point 1 - there is rarely a line anymore to get the PH, even many nights I just go there and check and its open. There isn't even a list most times.

3) People are genuinely happy to not have to sit at that camp for 2 - 8 hours to save 5k. It's a service :) Most people have tons of money on this server and would rather spend their time doing something else.

4) Sales aren't what they used to be, but see #3 above. I sold all those MQs over a couple weeks. Think there were 7 at one point. Bought a Fungi to support the server merchant community and now levelling a Rogue and Cleric for fun.

5) Kill Hasten if you want. OR don't. I don't care. Doesn't change my day at all, it just screws over your guildmate / fellow server player who wants boots for his alt so they can enjoy their levelling experience that much more!

This is such a non issue of people guessing and getting angry over a small money camp that is often open. Get there and get on the list if you want, farm them yourself, it's your choice. But there is zero monopolization of anything and take a breath people!

Because it is as boring to sell them as it is to buy them, I do a random 100 after and you can get 10%, 20% or even 50% off. Because its more fun to do it that way. People are excited to get boots for their alts and I'm happy to help them get them faster.

The people that immediately started to "shut him down" wasn't because of the kill theft, but rather, because he was breaking the market up-sale.

They can't corner the market if everyone offers the same price. It's money loss to them.

Thread is old as hell :p but it's not even that Jboots are hard to buy or anything like that, it just makes someone question why the PNP allows this really. Like oh, this person is camping this item even though he has 30 of these items on his corpse nearby. Like how is it PNP to allow this? I'm pretty sure it's actually against the rules but not enforced really.

That being said I unfortunately haven't played P99 in a very long time (I still check the forums every now and then). Just wanted to say I met a gnome named Hasten on Warcraft and he was also an EQ player ;) kind of neat to meet EQ players in 2025. Dying breed so to speak.

But MQs are legal so there's no real difference to be made between an AC ring or any other droppable item in the game. If you can hold drusella indefinitely and sell a gazillion urns I don't see why you couldn't do the same with the AC ring. I guess it isn't a /list camp you can do whatever especially considering a ton of people would rather just pay for an AC ring than do the camp.

Something else important to note about handing off camps - in particular, popular ones, but this applies to any camp that becomes contested. If you are solo camping, once you attain the item you were waiting for (an AC ring, for example) you are done camping that mob. The person coming to take the camp had better be prepared at this point in order to come eliminate the very next placeholder spawn in order to "stake his claim" on the mob. You cannot work wacky corpse lines on lore items in order to grab multiple items in the same "camp session" if there are others waiting to take the camp. Please be aware that we reserve the right to apply this same ruling to any camp if we deem it necessary, including camps with multiple players.

I guess you can always keep going if no one is in line or get back in line once you get your ring.

Correct; if there's no one else who wants AC (or any camp), none of the rules even come into play.

All of the above is just a clarification of the Play Nice Policies (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325349), and by default those policies let anyone kill any mob, any number of times ... unless it's kill stealing, camp stealing, zone disruption, harassment, etc. That quote from Derubael was just a clarification of the camping rules.

I believe I've heard of people petitioning someone for corpsing and continuing to kill AC and GMs giving the camp over as a result but as mentioned above it really just applies to camps that 1 person is there soloing the mob and someone else has to actually be there waiting to take over.

I've certainly stayed at camps that are considered contested after getting the named spawn/drop to get more, but there wasn't someone sitting right next to me waiting to take my spot.
