I'm kinda drunk and introspective at the moment.

Does everyone get along with their parents?

My parents where divorced from an early age and as a kid I adored my father, He was always the fun parent and would take me out on trips on the weekends he had me.

He let me do what ever and he made me think my mother/stepfather where evil assholes.

My father was always promising me all these great things and telling me all these stories and when they never came true he always had an excuse for not picking me up for what ever trip he planned and I accepted it.

When I got older it slowly dawned on me that my blind love for my father was stopping me from seeing all the shitty things he did.

He was connected to organized crime and did some pretty shitty things and he was terrible to his current wife yelling and hitting her and she just accepted it, it was horrible.

When I turned 18,he took out multiple credit cards out in my name as well as a phone account and ran up a huge amount of debt. I'm still dealing with the consequences of that 8 years later.

The worst part is how I saw my mother at those times. The true story was he abandoned us years ago and he rarely paid child support and I feel like shit ever thinking my mother was anything but a saint.


I have not spoke with him in over 6 years but something came up today that reminded me of him.

Anyone else have shitty father figures?

I have seen you make negative comments on me being a Marine several times now. At least this shares some light on your hate of the military. However, your fathers actions do not reflect the rest of the people in the military. If you are being truthful about him, and what he did then that is pretty shitty bro.

Got a great relationship with my entire family, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and my parents. Grew up in a small town in the middle of the country of Southwest MI. I was one of those priveliged children but my dad was not one to spoil so he made me work for everything I ever owned just like he did, I didn't understand back then but i appreciate the tough love now. Money is a taboo subject and is not to be talked about at family gatherings.

My parents died before I was born.

My parents divorced when I was 7, then both went on to make meth. Then they both went to prison, my brother and I went in and out of foster care and group homes. Then we were reunited with our mom when she got out on parole. But, alas, she didn't learn her lesson. Four days after our DCFS case was closed our house got raided again, my brother and I held the door closed while the cops tried to pry it open, so we were arrested for obstruction of justice. I was 14 then. Eventually the charges against us were dropped, but mom was back in the joint and we were back in foster care. Mom gets out again. She regains custody of us. She then burns our home to the ground in a meth fire. At this point, I'm 15 and the cops and DCFS say we are too old for foster care, so my brother and I are on our own, no home, no money, only the clothes on our backs. I got a job roofing for a slumlord who told us if we fell off a roof "we're fired before we hit the ground". I have been struggling to survive my whole life. Both my parents are out of prison now, and they learned their lesson. They are good people who made mistakes, and I love my parents. It's easier to see that they are humans now that I'm an adult. I know this is RnF, but hey, I don't get many chances to tell my story without fear. Hope you enjoyed my tale...
