View Full Version : 51+ Mage Pets
Why do they suck so hard?
The 49 fire pet has a 43 DS, the 52 fire pet has a 2 DS. Absurd. Isn't the idea to get stronger instead of weaker?
The 51+ pets (even the epic pet) don't scale well with mob health and damage output.
Why do I need to kill a raid mob, or pay 750,000PP, to increase the power of my 51+ pet ever so slightly?
Meanwhile, Enchanters pets are equipped with all sorts of cool things and hit for hundreds as they group solo raid mobs with charmed pets.
Having to chain cast pets is stupid.
Mages don't get any mana regen either. Enchanters, Druids and Necromancers can regenerate mana while walking around. Shaman can generate mana on the fly. I've got a +2 HP regen spell that costs a billion Cat's Eye to cast.
There's hardly any summoned mobs, they are mostly undead.
Who thought it was a good idea to make Gift of Xev summon all that stuff when all I want is the bag?
Why are DS and Burnout spells on such short timers?
Don't get me started on the pet EXP penalty; it's like giving a Monk a 50% XP penalty if he's not grouped. The pet XP penalty doesn't affect Enchanters because they charm and then go invis and kill both mobs. Necro doesn't need a pet neither does Shaman. A Mage is toast without his pet.
Why don't mages get an illusion spell?

When I go invis my pet dies....when I zone my pet dies...WTF?
The constant casting to get max level pet too...OMG.
Bristlebane's Bundle? Really? Yeah, that's gonna be useful. Meanwhile necro has FD and snare/fear, shaman has slow and Torpor. Enchanters have pretty much everything. What do I get? I get fireworks, +2 HP regen and a pet with a 2 point DS and Level 12 Wizard spells.

Well, mage is quite possibly the most boring class in EQ. Wizard is probably pretty close, but big ass nukes bring it just above mage.

The 51 Earth pet sucks too.
The 49 pet is focused, the 51 pet isn't; the 51 earth pet is smaller and has less HP than the previous earth pet.
The 52 fire pet isn't even worth buying. Why create something that's not worth buying?? Good logic there.
What about casts times???
Shamans get a clicky nuke bracer with a cast time of 8 seconds at L45, Mages gets a 2HS staff with no stats that has a cast time of 13.5 seconds at L46....13.5 seconds is absurd.

I have a 41 Mage that I sorta enjoy. I don't take him too serious but it's a fun character in a duo/trio..
Is the focused 49 Earth pet really better than the 51? 49 may be my new end goal if so.

Mages don't have to raid, no classes have to raid. It's not mandatory einstein. Raiding is overrated actually, it receives a disproportionate amount of attention in the same way spectator sports do. It's also illogical to raid at 60 on P99, there's no point to it.
You could say that by not raiding there's things I'll never have but that problem already exists in the form of pre-nerf loot.

I've seen a lot of players with mana stones, which they all got using /list.

Even if you think evolution is real, humans haven't evolved from creating bad design to good design in 20 years. 20 years is nothing in evolutionary terms.

The Mage epic is nothing compared to charmed pets.
You can't even retrieve items from an epic Mage pet.
This server seems to be very Enchanter friendly.
