There's actually quite a few really good servers out there and none of them get as much attention as they probably deserve cause everyone tends to flock to the most popular server (p99) and kinda becomes self fulfilling prophecy from that point. I've played on several other servers that made me think "Man this is WAY more fun than P99" but they never get enough consistent players cause P99 is so established now and everyone is so invested in their pixels. Plus the following of emulated EQ servers is fairly small to begin with.
