yeah the other night i logged into WC, 3 were in the zone, me and 2 lowbies.

12 mage and 11 cleric were up on the wall by the orc camp, i stood on the adjacent wall and was gonna ninja buff them because the cast range on clarity is frickin huge, i saw a 60 druid w/ epic (forget name) log in, cast buffs on them and log out. of course the 12 mage and 11 cleric never moved while the druid buffed.

obv my first assumption was boxers and i thought about reporting them but ended up saying, "eh fuck it, boxers are like a hydra" and then i cast clarity on the boxes.

the unfortunate truth is that VPNs and cell phone hotspots are ubiquitous and that P99 staff doesn't have the resources to police the all the multi boxers.

I think account sharing is the bigger issue. How many guilds have people PLing clerics and cothbots by just having a bard swarm CoM while the bot is in group and afk? It's technically not "boxing" since there is supposedly another physical person logged in somewhere on the char who is soaking xp, but they're still just afk and afk leveling is against the rules for pet classes, isn't it?

I have seriously been wondering about how many people actually box and how the staff probably don’t have the capability to stop it beyond the very dumbest of offenders.

I imagine it’s damn near impossible to identify it happening through a VPN. The only way to get close to identifying it is by testing those that are presumed to be boxing.

Maybe they are truly less worried about the mule in EC or the occasional 60 Druid that POTGs and then logs. It’s probably more of the 3 boxers that are holding down fungi camp or something like that.

definitely lots of boxes on p99, but they aren't always where you look, and often manage to evade bans

it's tough for GMs to easily enforce because many of the red flag signs of boxing can just be coincidental, so GMs won't ban purely on speculation (i've met plenty of actual keyboard turners), and all it takes is someone having a family member within earshot to grab the controls if the GMs try to box test them (something that a previous boxer I knew of used a few times to evade a ban until they finally got sloppy)

the biggest problem is that p99 mostly allows AFK XP PL. there are tons of people doing it above board, usually just leaving a character logged in while they work and someone else is grinding XP. it's because this is allowed and so many people do it that it is such an easy cover for people boxing.

if they really wanted to cut down on rampant casual boxing in p99, they should ban AFK PL

Pretty sure there are a lot of folks who "box" in the sense of having their EC mule online while they play another char elsewhere and logging in mains to buff or port alts.etc and do so regularly and prolly have for years and never got caught. I can't say to what degree they care or don't care about stuff like that. But I'm pretty certain it's a common occurrence. I've witnessed it first hand on more than one occasion over the years. Once even talked about semi openly in a undisclosed guild VOIP server. Still kinda surprised nobody ratted on him.

This was me and my bro before he passed. He had one eyelid that blinked at the end. We hired a neighborhood kid to come over and every time my bro blinked, the kid would click CH on my bro's cleric, Delphine.

I still am on Team "Let's see if this is maybe a make-a-wish scenario." The GM's are being mum about it cuz the kid and his bros wanted to not make a big deal of it.

So just let it be, dudes. It's a beautiful thing. This used to be a much bigger thing back when EQ was popular. My guild did weekly "raids" where we would give some kid from the group home near where my guild lived some loot and tell him he killed the dragon. Kids still have imagination, is what I've learned. You can't take that away.

There is only one solution.


p99 Attica Server. 2024. No pvp. You just never know where your corpse is when you die and have to find it.


Every guild will have a necro parked at every zone in. It will suck if your corpse goes to a plane. Which it can.


Monks will simply play naked. Because this is Attica.


Wizards will be parked at every spire. How else you going to go let the necro fetch your corpse?


Dial a summons will exceed dial a port as the most lucrative way to earn money, especially after a quake.


Attica Server.


Kunark will hit, and only a few people will have made it to level 30. Experience groups are run by certified madmen who actually will fetch your corpse, rez it, and get you back down to the group. The server is split on if this is how one goes insane.


Attica 2024.


There will be days of mourning when someone corpse pops in VP.


Enchanters will play naked after they get clarity. If they get to that level.

Wouldn't happen on red though, you just kill the box.
