View Full Version : Unrest Frustrations

First and hopefully last rant I'll ever write on the forums.

>Be me, 13 Cleric, go to Unrest, twinked AF.
>Have a great time (initially), wrecking ghouls with my undead nukes.
>Ding level 17, head to MR.

The proceding 2 days are a blur of trains and rezzing.

Train
Train
Train
Train
Train
Train
Train

>No problem, I'll log my 60 paladin and rez everybody and derail the trains
>End up doing this for multiple hours over the course of 2 days, picking up the pieces of FP.
>Group (or the main 2 culprits) that is training the whole zone over and over again is still holding FP. Except now, I can't group there because I've called them out for training everyone.
>Manage to scrounge solo xp killing ghouls in a corner up to 22, give up and head out.

So that was my experience of Unrest. In the 2 decades on and off that I've played EQ that is the single worst time I've ever had there. Despite opening a petition (something I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to do) nothing was done about those guys. This was Green and their guild was Pals btw, a guild which I have never heard anybody say 1 positive thing about btw.

I've never seen so few fucks given about training other people. Multiple groups wiped again and again as those morons kept dragging trains around (what kind of a puller uses intimidate btw?) This is probably the lowest skill floor and the most antisocial behaviour amongst players in EQ I've ever seen.

/Rant over. It's only a game. But what a fucking frustrating experience.

I complained to their guild but Pals is so hopeless there wasn't a single officer online who could respond in the whole time this was going on. I've only just learnt how to use Shadowplay so i'll keep that for if this happens again in the future. Will DM if that helps.

The worst part was the fact that there were so many legitimate (real) newbies whose first experience of EQ or of playing EQ again after many years was ruined by these guys. I felt bad for them that's why I spent so much time rezzing, they were totally confused by what was going on as I tried to explain this wasn't normal.

Unrest is janky and bad for trains but it takes a really special kind of FP group to make the zone semi unusable for the better part of 2 days.

OP seems to be making two separate claims: They were getting trained due to incompetance *and* due to malice?

GM's can't intervene every time somebody just sucks at the game, and unrest is a notoriously hairy zone as far as pathing especially inside the house.

If they're primarily incompetent but so immune to feedback and obnoxious in OOC, and they keep doing it for dozens of hours, does it not blur the line between malice and incompetence if the end effect is the same?

Tbh have you considered maybe… getting out of the way of the trains? I leveled my cleric pretty much entirely in unrest on green and had very few issues

I whole-heartedly AGREE, and I'm basically a prude who will /petition your ass for horrible behavior and if you look at my hedgehog funny.

Unrest is TRAIN-CENTRAL. Even as a low level "noob" you should always be aware of the insane trains there. It literally takes ONE TIME, to realize this (which we all did back in '99). So I deem this post as "funny."

Mistmoore used to have the best trains when a dumbass would wander into the wrong room in the castle and pull half of it with some of the pathing issues.

Probably the one good thing about the TLP servers is they they don't give any fucks if you train all day every day because there are like 15 instances of Unrest and if you're fucking up one of them, why would they care?

As a caveat there was a bard that was hard-core training shit all over Unrest 15 one time for like 3 hours (I personally found it hilarious), and people were saying they were petitioning him and shit the whole time, and as soon as he dropped a hard racial slur his ass disappeared. So they don't tolerate some stuff anyway.

>a dumbass
yes, cat gif man. part of the formula of making a enjoyable video game is the community not literally knowing everything. god bless mistmoore dumbass and all the mistmoore dumbasses for making the game, the game.

I like when the pond group somehow aggros the tower while pulling gargoyles at the base and causes half the zone to train to the entrance.

no one has yet mentioned that you can't fight a mob in a hallway or room with a low ceiling in Unrest because the mob will warp up and come back with train

This is true, but it wasn't always true. In the old days pre-Velious the pathing wasn't so shocking. Something changed. I think it was that time Haynar was doing some fixing and the server came up with mobs stacked up on top of each other in a lot of zones.

Bad pathing classic. Should be worse. Collision detection should be worse too. Mobs never get pushed through walls here.

One of my most distinct memories from classic are watching those mistmoore trains from the pond ledge, which was usually safe from aggro, but you'd kinda get a showcase of the types of mobs that are deeper in the zone which was so cool as a lvl 20 pond newb. Those dark elf mobs in full plate and the vampire looking ones running by, I was like oh boy I'll *never* be good enough to kill those things (lol)

How dafuq is pond aggroing tower?!?! Even a noob puller wouldn't do that. How are people playing the game now? Jesus. H!!!

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with Unrest due to what you are describing. It's quite easy to level from 1-30 in a number of higher ZEM areas. I haven't been to Unrest to level my last 2 characters who are now 30+.

I do remember pond group on live accidentally aggroing that tower while pulling the gargs that are outside\under it pretty frequently which would cause a huuuuge train. I always thought it was just some wonky\glitchy pathing or maybe a small race hitbox popping through the wall thing.

Jimjam

Collision detection on live sucked. Mobs would often clip thru walls.

One of the least classic things here!!
