Grouping after level 50 sucks if you can solo.

I'll still group with other players. Especially if they need a healer, namely because I enjoy seeing other people get to enjoy the game.

But I don't know. When I solo as my Shaman I'm basically looking at a 2nd monitor watching true crime videos and AFK farming mobs without a care in the world.

Then I join a group and I feel like my heads going to explode because I'm trying to buff/haste:eek: four melees, slow mobs, root mobs because if I don't they gone beat me up, manage a pet, keep everyone alive, keep regrowth on myself, and mash cannibalize repeatedly until my carpal tunnel starts flaring up.

Meanwhile I'm actually getting significantly less experience and less $$$ because I don't even have time to loot, and out of no where a Construct of Sathir spawns on top of me and instantly kills me with harm touch because I was so low on HP from mashing cannibalize over and over and over again, and my group falls apart, and now I have less experience than when I started and I'm waiting on a boat so I can run back to KC to get my corpse because I forgot to bind outside the entrance.

The last part didn't actually happen, my group got me a 96% resurrection, and even logged on to alt characters to give me POTG and Clarity 2. I fake disconnected when our tank left and someone asked me if I could tank (I'm a Shaman; but I'm not a geared Shaman, nor do I have Torpor). It was mostly a positive experience, but I do feel like grouping as a Shaman can be hella' stressful compared to solo'ing.

The best XP for shaman is going to be duo/trio with Melee, preferably someone you know well. Most players don't bring enough to Matter and are just XP leaches. Shaman with Melee or Enchanter with Healer (Cleric is best, but other healers can work decently in a Pinch. Everyone else can solo. Mage/Necro can fill in the Melee spot with a Shaman, but less efficient due Mage DS being significant DPS and Necro primarily Charms post 50. Cleric and Mage/other DPS is decent too. Generally good duo/trio will be Healer as the foundation and DPS/tank. Everyone else is kind of filler/waste of space.

The real trick is to rush to 46 and park in ToV until you're near BiS.

Full groups are only worth it if well-built. KC groups are rarely well-built.

1(War/Knight/RNG), 1CLR, at least 1ENC, 3 dps (ENC, NEC, MAG, ROG > MNK, very geared WAR). Can substitute 1 dps for a SHM if you aren't using a knight. Skilled rangers as a dps also make great pullers in the FFA that is KC. In my experience, another groups' monk takes a mob from my camp -once- and they'll be lucky to get another named the rest of the night- track and spawn sequence memory/timing ftw

With care given to ensure everyone is similar level (no 59's in LCY or RCY when the rest of the group is low 50's ffs). Not following these guidelines, especially in KC, is a recipe for utterly shit exp. Also don't overbuild groups for the mobs you have available. Sometimes when KC is busy a camp can only support a duo or trio.

The Hole is such a pain in the ass for the average player to get to.

The relatively safe/social entrance to KC is also a plus. It's also easy to go deep in KC and you don't need a port class to bail you out.

The Hole is cool and all, but it's about the worst in the game for a organic, social dungeon. You have to form the group before you even port to Odus.

People are inherently lazy as fuck (hello, they're playing P99 for a reason).

Slight nerf to hole and slight buff to KC and just like that the mouthbreathers have come home to roost right where they belong.

I kind of forgot that I did play with a Monk briefly around level 45 and it was super efficient. He had a fungi tunic and I was basically just having to slow mobs and keep him buffed while he did most of the work. He literally never required heals. My pet was some added DPS.

Yea the real reason is because they nerfed the ZEM in the Hole. However it's still superior xp due to the relative abundance of mobs compared to KC.

It's truly simple to get to any camp in the Hole if you're not the noobiest of noobs.

I just went to KC for the nostalgia. I had spent like 2 nights getting the OT Hammer just so I could go there without having to worry about ruining my VS faction. I still want to see The Hole, Chardok, Howling Stones, Sebilis etc. but KC from what I've gathered was the most accessible for an average player.

The thought of going all the way out to the Hole and then being stuck there without finding a group isn't super appealing. At least if I can't get a group in KC there's still stuff in the surrounding zones that I could solo for EXP during the meantime. I also need to head over to CoM to finish my cannibalize 2 quest, so KC being conveniently located is a big plus, but I do plan on moving around more and more to see a lot of the zones I never really got to thoroughly enjoy 20+ years ago.

Also I'm not sure how useful dexterity is for people who don't have procs, or if I'm supposed to buff Bard's charisma.

Agility is mostly to offset incapacitate/cripple and encumbrance. It’s only low agi you need to worry about.

In the 30s rogues get a tiny mitigation bump for having triple digit agi. It’s equivalent to about an extra 7ac worn and iirc ignores the worn ac cap. Functionally nothing though.

I dunno I had a blast in a KC group with only two necros "healing", me tanking on a war and i think 2 monks and a rogue. Every mob just melted, CC wasn't even necessary as long as everyone assisted. Made like 1.5 yellows in a couple hours.

Shaman can easily solo to 60 yeah, especially with the stupidly easy to get epic, so it's not surprising you enjoy soloing more. Once there's more than one of you at a raid though you're kinda redundant esp if you don't have torp :(

Yep, grouping generally blows in this game. It blows all game it is just more noticable when you need 4x as much xp for a level suddenly at 50.

I found grouping to be the most enjoying aspect of playing P99, but not on a Shaman.

God help you if you're the main "healer" too. Because everyone will expect you to do everything else you do as well.

Then you have a fast pulling Monk who doesn't check chat for 'lom', so you canni down to 20%, then he complains he doesn't instantly re-hasted as soon as his drops, etc.

I can understand why a lot of Shaman solo instead.

But besides that, grouping is unique in Everquest. No other game comes close to the same experience.

It's true. I have no idea what clerics are doing to go OOM so much, especially somewhere like KC LCY. I've literally healed there on a ranger before (I was in wolf form, let them believe I was a druid :P).

Ranger healing is no joke if you've got C2 and are dancing your heals between med ticks lol
