View Full Version : Any chance we can get a rough ETA for future shutdowns?

We appreciate what the GMs do, but "Server shutdown in 10m" isn't the most satisfying message in any situation. Any chance we can get a rough ETA, especially for out-of-the-blue 10m warning shutdowns? Perhaps *some* sort of verbose message with a 1/2 sentence of details? Even if the ETA is really rough. No one's sure if it's 10 minutes or 10 hours.

We're all in our 30s/40s now with limited time. I'm sure a large majority would greatly appreciate this.

You'll take you're 100% free server with no downtime warnings and you'll like it!

Lol so all the zerg guilds can just park at their most valued target because they know exactly when the server is gonna reset so all the mobs will be up? Yeah, no thanks

If a server goes down and it screws you over and causes you to die because you're deep in some dungeon like HS the staff will usually rez you. Otherwise 10+ minutes of warning is plenty of time to walk someplace to camp if you're in an otherwise unsafe place.

Not about safety - just time mgmt and general courtesy. Planned last weekend to dungeon up with a bud, we get there, setup, and.... 10m warning, with no context or clue if we should wait for a few mins or call it. The average person here likely has substantially less time than they used to 20 years ago. Wife/child aggro, etc. You know, the pr0nhub equivalent for 'sockers when comparing time-consumption. Would have taken mere seconds to add some context.

If you aren't camping the server select screen to see when the server comes back up, are you really even playing Everquest?

Can we stop with gay talk and just call it what it is... Sex. Woman and man or man and man, sex is still sex. Let's not label it "gay" sex.

No. I want to know what kind of porn it is.

Not really. I’m not a poop sicker because I have better things to do that in my opinion are more fulfilling to me.

However, if someone wants to poop sick and use their free time in that way that’s totally their right. If you don’t like it, then maybe you’d be more comfortable in a game with instances.

Shouldn't you be camping The Sleeper or whatever? Your guild is gonna get mad.

Not to burst your bubble, but most raiders have a toon parked at every target anyway...+ Perma parked bots..:p

Yeah true but not all guilds can 100% always field a necessary raid force at the drop of a hat for a specific target. They can a good amount of the time but not always. Telling everyone when each quake is gonna happen is stupid and allows those hardcore raiders to know exactly when they need to be ready to go.

Wow this got weird and fast.

Folks. Everyone. You don't have to take the piss out of someone for asking after something like "tell us how long servers are going to be offline for" or "give us more than a 10 minute heads up when servers go down". Most live games do this.

Yes, it is true that our gracious p99 GMs do not have the time and resources of a live game. So, just say that. Say that technology is fickle, servers may need to come down randomly, and the small team can't give an ETA because they're all busy fixing the dang thing.

You're all being excessively rude when you could be camping mobs instead. :P

I've always wondered if anyone just rolls and levels up the same class over and over so they can have different copies of their "main" at different raid targets. I assume when people have different toons they're also different classes, like okay i'll put my cleric here and my bard here and my warrior here, but for crucial classes on p99 wouldn't it make sense to have multiple "copies" of your main that you can park at different targets?

I've had multiple 60's before for parking, but I've never had two or three of the same class geared and leveled on a single server. Yet that seems the logical end game of the truly masochistic min\maxer.

Well that’s why guilds level things like Cleric bots. It’s essentially the same thing. People are just able to earn dkp for leveling those rather than having to level one single class for all their personal chars.
