View Full Version : Public transportation needs more funding

From time to time, I find my self having to take the boat, even on my druid. And each time I wonder if the boat are on strike or something. I would guess since this time schedule is so unnaturaly far between, the programmers might have mixed up time programming on game time and real time?

At least: can the GM's have some sand giants push the boats to speed up this public transportation.

Lol, boats take like 40 mins I think? Maybe it's 30 but I know it is a while. Worst thing is when you afk and miss it and have to wait again /nod

Translocators. Wouldn't ruin p99

Waiting on the bloated belly in TD... now... that's a bonkers wait.

That is one at least 38 minutes. That's what I timed it at from my random arrival one time. I was blown away so I checked my log for when I said "at boat" and it was 38 minutes. I wonder what the max time is.

Or how you shouldn’t panic and try to move as the shuttle to the boat passes through the dock itself with you still on it

Not only did I panic and attempt to move to stay on the shuttle, causing me to step onto the dock and then not be able to get back on the shuttle in time, but I saw the exact same thing happen to another noob like a week later on his first boat attempt

Weee another 40 min wait. Get fucked

I’m surprised someone hasn’t timed the boats and created a time table for all of them.

Good rant
8/10 for the RP factor.

But yes, a round trip is like 40 minutes real time. Porting was always an amazing thing and not found like this in other MMORPGs that I played in era. Druid was always a popular class, the SOW and ports gave mobility to the player base.

Going from crawling around noobie zones to your friends finding you and one has a high level druid. Now you are running around, sometimes as a wolf!, and can instantly go to the other side of the world, that would take you like an hour of goofing around and sight seeing the game. Big oldschool CRT in the original UI.. no other games like it at the time for me. Nintendo 64 was still for sale at Wal-Mart.

tl/dr: Kelethin druid guild should hire the gnomes to fix the OOT druid rings, it's been in disrepair long enough. :) j/k

an awesome custom quest would be for there to be an island with pirates on it that if you do a quest it respawns the island for like 8 hours and the boats come every 5 minuets, but if you leave the mobs up the boats go back down to their once in a life time rate they are set to now.

One of the few things EQ2 did right was just put a fucking bell at every dock that teleports you.

One of the many things they did wrong was put the bell almost everywhre else as well.

They have, and they change due to server lag/outage etc.

There's literally a discord for this, just ask in the P99 discord for a link

I can't think of anything more correct for everquest than waiting for the boats.

I can't think of anything less immersive than insta-ing all over the world.

That Al-Kabor freak was a real game breaker.

I too remember having a friend with a HIGH LEVEL druid (like level 40) so he had group ports OMG!

Ocean of Tears had 2 boats in classic. They were not the same ships and they certainly weren't the boat from Erud's Crossing. I think originally at the start of this server there were two boats, but they collided on their pathing and hosed people all the time. I might be misremembering that though.

I remember chatting with people on Boats in classic(well Kurnark), people would group up for the ride and spam their native languages so we could learn/skillup our language skills.

You should be able to zone without being on the boat either.

^

That went on a lot more than people talk about. When you entered Kelethin there was usually someone advertising this. My enchanter learned most of the languages like this. No one knew what the future held for the game or what uses the devs might have for.. well, anything. People also experimented more and would chat in those different languages for fun I guess, so it was cool being able to read what they were talking about.

Chat is pretty much dead on P99 but it isn't anyones fault, the march of time and progress. There were no social medias like today when EQ was around. (http://bhagpuss.blogspot.com/2019/04/there-is-no-mystery-left-everquest.html)

More than that, the game itself resisted distraction. You could not tab out to look something up on Allakhazam let alone check your email. EverQuest could not be windowed. It used all your screen space and all your processing power. You played it until you'd had enough then you closed the program and did something else.

We goodies sat and medded with our spellbooks open, filling the entire screen. I played for years with no distractions or media other than the official EverQuest display, a nine-inch square inside a UI that filled the rest of my 14" CRT monitor, my only contact with the outside world the chat box at the bottom center of the screen. That was immersion for you.

We could create a multiboxing credit system.

You're allowed to have a porter druid alt.
For every Freeport (teehee you give) a player can give a token, signed with their own pgp key (like an nft).
Players get like three tokens per month.
After collecting 100 tokens you get 1hrs free boxing on any character!

These are tracked in an open thread. Programmatically it's easy to control how many tokens are in the wild and how often they get refreshed and the max number of tokens that can be counted per account. Obviously not every account will get tokens. This will be very hard to cheat.

Hope this helps your time in Norrath be more interesting!

Oh. Ya. Players just get emailed each month their tokens. Can also be a lottery with a limited # of tokens randomly given with a cool down period for players that just got them.

You can't ever bank more than three tokens!

I remember this too especially at the oasis/TD zoneline Id always just run off the dock with lev and sow to not wait the 15 mins or whatever that stupid barrel barge took

That was the main past time waiting for boats at docks. Thanks for bringing up the good memory.

I want to clarify key and tokens in my ruleset.

Also it used to be easy to swim onto all boats. That's either impossible or clunky right now.

When could you ever zone when you were out in the ocean? Thought you couldn’t

I think the timetables change tho a bit every so often/reset. Sometimes the boats get weird on their own. So it's sorta a sysphean task. And they can be unpredictable changes.

I'm sure there is some grander pattern to the boats. You probably would have to run them 10,000 years and it would just be the quadratic plot of G-d's image or Brad maybe.

Waiting is classic. Getting glitched through the boat at loading is even more classic.

Trying to get the boat to run over you at sirens islands and get glitched into the boat through the bottom is even more classic.

Boats FTW. No levitate no sow ocean traveling, FTW.
