<Misunderstood> | An RP-PvP Guild on Green

Greetings once more, wayward %r %t!

It has been some time since I, myself, have last ventured onto these forums and into the lands of Norrath. And alas, onto the Green server. I seek your aid in fulfilling an aim of not only mine, but perhaps many, many others.

<Misunderstood> will be a casual Roleplay-oriented guild for those who have both flagged themselves for the Player Versus Player system at the Priest of Discord and will only be permitting evil-aligned races and worshippers unless otherwise Agnostic. Actual, proactive involvement in PvP with other players will be entirely optional and while the intention is for roleplay, active use of the roleplay tag being enabled will also be optional (due to its anonymizing effects and the inconveniences this may cause for yourself). Infighting within the guild will be disallowed unless both parties consent and camping others will be outright forbidden. Lore wise, we are but a conglomerate of individuals who share the commonality of our suffering. Many of us have similar goals, and though they may manifest in different ways, we all agree that this world is in need of discord. Do you [wish to join] our cause?

We do not officially make use of VOIP nor personal guild forums. There is no necessary commitment to the guild, should you join only to find another guild more to your interest. Whether you like to play solo, quest as a group or what have you, you are welcome to whichever your fancy. Once the guild is formed, this post will be also updated with the founding officers (with their permission).

Green Player Versus Player Q&A:

Q: What happens when you kill someone or are killed in PvP?
A: The same thing as if someone killed you in an Arena happens not unlike being killed in general.

Q: Can others loot my character's equipment or money?
A: No.

Q: Do I lose experience upon death?
A: If a player lands the final blow that kills you, then you do not lose experience.

Q: Am I able to be buffed, healed or ported by others while flagged for PvP? Can I affect others?
A: Yes and no; if another player is capable of engaging you in combat, be it flagged similarly or has an outstanding duel with you, then yes. If your name is red and theirs is not, then you cannot affect them in any way except bandaging them. These rulings go both ways between flagged and non-flagged players.

Q: Do spells and abilities work differently against other players in terms of damage, resistance and duration?
A: I recommend reading this article (https://wiki.project1999.com/Game_Mechanics#PvP_Details_for_p1999) for a full summary on how such mechanics work.

Q: Is there a sizable population that actively engages in PvP on Green?
A: As of this post, no, there is not.

Thanks! Haha I'd mused with the idea of an "evil" Ranger or Druid a time back, in the sense of realizing nature needs balance (like how boar need to occasionally be culled). Glad to see someone else doing the same.

Aye, that'd be awesome. I do also miss Qeynos so much. It's my favorite city. The guild has been made now, by the way (that was fast!) so I can begin proper recruitment. Woo~!

Good luck to you guys. Misunderstood might be the perfect name for you. Cause I truly don't understand pvp'ers in EQ. Roleplayers are kind of strange too. Fun to roleplay a little, but staying in Ogre speak 100% of the time is just plain annoying.

Thanks! I'm glad it's fitting. I usually play it by ear when my roleplay is too excessive for the atmosphere, honestly; if the group vibe isn't for it, I typically shelve it for the time.

Adding the PvP element, for me, is for a somewhat more immersive experience. In EverQuest, as an evil race, you are not trusted by much of the world's populace and, with a red name, the unfamiliarity of it for others yields a similar sense of hesitation and distrust. The idea of needing to look over your shoulder where you travel and knowing who you can count on really lends to the idea that you'd feel safer crawling around in some dark cave or dank sewer. I don't overtly look for someone to fight, but the idea of having to stay just a little bit more on my toes - and how differently I would need to think if I fought someone versus your conventional NPC - adds a fun variety to things.

I can totally get the idea behind the idea of a colorblind guild, in the sense that you're playing with blue and purple names with a red and/or salmon-red name on a Green server. Lol Glad you like it, though! My old man thought of the name and it was simple yet different enough for me to want to steal it. Hehe It's great too that there'll be the other Red guild at least, too (hopefully) for some variety if people want to focus more on RP or more on sheer PvP.

Yeah, I was talking to the other guy who is hoping to make another Red guild, and we had similar ideas in the vein of possible promotional events to show folks it can be fun and not as nerve-wracking as most people might believe it to be.

IMO if I farmed up some newbie starter gear (jade broadsword, wraith bone hammers, stuff like that) --- even players with mains and stuff would be welcome, a free set of banded is a free set of banded! or some +mr rings or w/e like a blue diamond ring or bracer i forget what is what

and we can entice newbies to come to EC or orc 1 or oasis to compete for something that will take them to level 30 that will be motivation to book for a few minutes, would be nice to offer free rides to them back and forth between qeynos to make booking ez

i have a baby druid at lvl 20 or something not sure ... long term goals! let people see they can have fun, it doesn't have to always be dragons on tuesday!

also if we get a sufficient player base we can all book and fight vox/naggy on lvl 51's while pvp and have like a pvp event afterwards later on down the road just for screenshots and random fun make it more interesting doesn't always have to be about pvp if we are red

i too am one of those players who almost never goes out of my way to fight other ppl i dont even compete with ppl in pve, i do like being attacked in pvp tho every once in awhile it makes the game more interesting for sure, Especially if i'm with a group of players who all have pumice and know how to pvp! things get super interesting then! :D some days i just want to grind some low lvl mobs and when i played on red99 that was what my alts were for

at some point i'll go blue again, probably to make some progress on starkind in like MM or something, not ready for that though, i'm in no hurry, then I will go red again. I'll probably stay red 90% of the time

Oh wow, I made it to the forum, photo and all! Nice shot, although my left side is my photogenic side.
Seriously, I really liked this guild idea concept yesterday when I read the posts, and I rushed home after work to create Kentik, a dark elf wizard. Being evil there was only this one character class/race/religion combination that could be good at PvP and also be a helpful teleporter for guild members, so I went for it! I also have played every other caster a million times on various servers, but never tried a wizard, so that was another factor drawing me in. So far so good! And my first interaction was with a very nice person who saw my red name and contacted me to ask if I had made a mistake, and did I understand the implications of my choice. And then we chatted for a while. So it's sparking interactions, which in an MMORPG is a good thing.
I have only advanced to level 4, so if anyone is reading ths and is intrigued enough to try it out, create a character today and join me, and we can advance together until we take over Norrath! Look up Kentik.

...So far so good! And my first interaction was with a very nice person who saw my red name and contacted me to ask if I had made a mistake, and did I understand the implications of my choice. And then we chatted for a while. So it's sparking interactions, which in an MMORPG is a good thing.

I think between the novel, new experience, the immersion and the challenges, the fact it piques such curiosity and serves as a great icebreaker for interactions between myself and others is my favorite part. Every single group I've been in has been thoroughly rused into believing I'm a Necromancer when I'm actually an Enchanter - the red name helps! More particularly, there's always questions, namely "why?", and it's always so fun explaining the logic behind it. Almost always develops into a fun conversation within the group.

Last night, we reminisced about Live and how apparently two of our party members used to play on a PvP server. One mentioned all the griefing they ended up experiencing and the other talking about what things were like after some changes as time passed. The idea it helps reunite people over past ideas really warms me.

From a very young age, I knew I was not like the others. I felt out of place in this world - yes, it offers so many paths to take, but every one has been traveled by the boots of hundreds of thousands of "adventurers" before me. Meaning no disrespect to the original settlers of these lands - they were the true adventurers, carving paths to establish safe-havens amidst the chaos of Norrath: The treacherous mountains of Faydwer, the dense forests Faydark Toxxulia and Nektulos, the sub-zero perils of Everfrost and the overbearing heat of the Desert of Ro. Nay, I speak of those that followed them, for how many times can one follow the well-beaten paths of our ancestors before the overwhelming urge of TRUE adventure overtakes them?

That question dominated my thoughts. It became an obsession that further drove the perceived wedge dividing myself from the others. I immersed myself in studying the practices and religions that are only mentioned in whispers in the darkest corners of Norrath's taverns. Hatred, fear, decay, conflict, chaos... Discord. In my travels, I happened upon a Priest of Discord, who offered me a tome, written by The Seventh Hammer of the Court of Justice. Yes! This was a major step in the right direction. My eyes were opened to knowledge of the Order of Discord, those who studied and followed the same as I. I returned the tome to the Priest and became a child of Discord.

And yet there was still something missing. That old nagging thought from my youth suddenly returned at full strength. Yes, I have embraced the teachings of Discord, but what about my path? The fact that I was still following the same dusty, over-trodden paths of my ancestors left me sick to my stomach. I decided I must do something drastic to break the cycle. I would not only embrace the ways of Discord, I would devote my days on Norrath to destroying only those followers of Order who had banded together to form their cliques, churches, and shining cities that aim to sublimate the chaos and Discord that lives within us all.

Then one day as I was engrossed in my studies, I overheard whispers of a small group of children of Discord, looking to grow their ranks quickly. They would take some of the burden off of the oft-ignored Priests, and spread the word in the lands between the safe-havens of Norrath. I met with their charismatic leader Darious Bileblood in the Plains of Karana to discuss whether I would be a fit to this clan of Misunderstood. I will always follow my calling to destroy those who ignore their internal calling to Discord, but I have now found a family that may accept me in my quest.

I've actually never touched Red, myself, nor have a few other members of the guild. Though I have seen more people playing Red than there used to be in the past, which is also nice. I like the sense of immersion in playing an evil character when even players give you the stinkeye at first glance.

And holy hell, this was an amazing read. Thank you so much for this. I love seeing people's adventures put to story just like this. I haven't done a writeup recently, but I've definitely accrued a wee bit of story to share, myself; hopefully I can put it into words as fluently as your own.
