Can anyone provide a brief description of these other servers, how they differ from Green?

PEQ
EZ
Imperium
Lazarus
TAKP
Hidden Forest

Takp I think goes to Luclin and allows two boxing? Could be wrong.

From what I can gather about Lazarus, it goes through PoP and allows like full 6 man group to be boxed. Not sure on other differences besides what the expansions add (such as AAs).

PEQ/Grand Creation is the vanilla EQEMU server, goes to Omens of War, allows boxing and most run 12-24 characters

EZ is a customized server that embraces/almost requires boxing and is focused on levels 70-77/78, almost no one solos on this server

Hidden Forest is also customized and allows boxing

Haven't played on these in years so things may have changed a bit. Never played Imperium, Lazarus or TAKP.

TAKP allows 3-boxing and plans to go through Planes of Power. It’s currently in Luclin right now.

They have a strong priority on classic mechanics and basically want to emulate the EQ Mac server that existed on Live but never went beyond Planes of Power.

As far as I am aware, they all allow boxing or are not what you would call EQ.

TAKP is the only other server that aims to have a "real" experience, but even they allow 3 boxing. A server that allows boxing is never going to have a good population because it turns so many people away.

The crucial thing to note here is that you have a choice: boxing OR expansions beyond Velious. It is impossible to have both (the closest you'll find is TakP, with it's limit of "only" 3-boxing).

If anyone ever made a server that went past Velious and didn't allow boxing (and wasn't messed up in some other way, eg. the staff RMTs) it would get huge population growth almost overnight, as there is a clear pent-up demand for such a server.

The problem is it probably wouldn’t be that much bigger in pop than P99 which just isn’t sufficient pop for 4 expansions plus old world

How so? People aren't going to continue playing in random old world zones like Permafrost or Cazic Thule on a realm that goes all the way to PoP regardless of the population. People would play in relevant zones in Luclin and PoP and it would only take a few hundred to make the world feel full enough.

takp is mostly 3 boxing to level up you characters

all the population is at high level

so far I'm having a blast

I've been in a few groups with some people and most people actually solo box!

The cool thing about TAKP is they use completely different system for how cha effects charm, and once they bring that system here then you get to re-gear your char!

What fun! :)

I think you are massively underestimating the interest in a "real" (no boxing) Luclin+ server. If it went at least up to PoP I think huge numbers of players would join (although personally I'd like to see up to LDoN, as that's when WoW came out, and many left EQ).

Just here on P99, enough people have come and gone ... several times over ... to populate such a server (judging only by the massive interest in such a server expressed over the years). Keep in mind that just because someone gets tired of endlessly raiding Velious, it does not mean they're tired of EverQuest!

The real limit here isn't desire, it's devs. Only someone as benevolent/insane as Rogean and Nilbog will offer the dedication necessary to have a no-boxing server (it's much more work than a boxing server), and thus far no one that benevolent/insane ... who doesn't hate cats on the moon ... has come along.
