View Full Version : Always raining with loud thunder

Im not sure if i remember being in a zone where there wasnt loud , crazy bursts of thunder.

Im also not sure if this is even a bug or.. if its two bugs or none at all. Because turning environment sounds off doesnt make it stop and also is it even normal for it to be dark and rainy with loud bursts of thunder all the time ? I dont remember. It feels like im playing Path of Exile or something.

I know its normal to be completely blind in this game and yet.. you can go into the Qeynos Catacombs / Aqueducts and have it very bright and visible even though there are no light sources down there.:D But.. i just dont remember all the loud thunder and rain all the time.

The volume of the thunder is just baked into the audio file, it's not "turned up" or anything, but yes it's very annoying. And yeah the frequency of rain seems way too often based on my memory, but that's all I have to go on. It's really annoying how often it rains in Oasis, considering it's a DESERT

It's all the users carelessly dropping loot on the ground and giving their pets torches.

It's also very annoying how turning off "environmental sounds" doesn't turn off thunder. It turns off like quiet wind noises and things, but it doesn't turn off "KABOOOOOOOOSHHHHHHH"

It's all the users carelessly dropping loot on the ground and giving their pets torches.

It could be a combination of that, along with the bloodsabers constantly casting and "A worn candle" being extra powerful !

P99's raind behavior has long been known to be odd. There was a post in the bug forum relatively recently indicating that weather behavior is due to be updated, however I don't know if we've had an actual server patch since. Hence it may still be pending.

I like to leave sound on because I can't even list the number of times the noise of approaching footsteps has saved careless me from an aggro'ing wandering mob, mostly because I didn't want to have to change camera view and pan the camera around my character every 10 seconds while solo'ing outside

But this means listening to the never-ending BOOMS taking place in Hawaii...er sorry Norrath where it rains every day of the year

The thunder is really annoying. You can edit the sound files to remove thunder. First hit result , google p99 remove thunder

I just hate how loud it is, wish I had a wav editor on this computer so I could just reduce the volume of it like 75%

Quest815

alot of people seem to be noticing this strangely large amount of thunder compared to old school EQ so i guess its unique to the server and whoever is running the show just likes this craziness.

OP have you checked you don’t just live in the rain forest?

This is something that could've been fixed server-side in 09.

Thanks for volunteering to do it now in 2021.

i can say since my last post on here 18 days ago it has continued to rain non stop with loud thunder in game.

it has become so abusive in fact i play with 0 sound and cant hear anything. Because when you click on environmental sounds and toggle it on or off it is bugged and does nothing.

We have made changes to the weather system which will be implemented in the next patch.

Some brief notes:
-Zones will no longer have the possibility of weather events persisting for extraordinary amounts of time
-Weather events happen less frequently
-Desert zones have a much less chance of rain, and a shorter duration when it does occur

so how often do you patch ?

ive been playing for 1 month and have already found an extra ordinary amount of abusive bugs and i dont notice an update yet ?

i heard that it is not optimal to bring down the servers unless you really find it necessary, so it hardly happens. Meanwhile people have been posting that this abusive bug should have / could have been fixed in 08.

Bruh.. they're volunteers. Why you yelling at them like they're Blizzard? If editing old 90s video games was your hobby would you want to read comments like yours every day?

Some changes are made without having to roll out an official patch and take the server down. You generally never know these things happen, they usually aren't announced. But certain things, like these weather changes, need to be rolled out in larger patches which require you to download a new set of files. Those are less frequent, and there is no set schedule. Since you've only been playing 1 month I thought you might not know that yet.

And yeah they're 100% volunteer, cut them some slack.

I actually couldn't care a less i turn the sound off. I was honestly just curious when they patch because nobody wants the server to go down and its way too buggy. Its a little late anyways as ive progressed through most of the quests where all the quests / dialogue were broken and can deal w the sound.

well honestly the first bugs i reported a month ago, wizards saying they are from the order of tree,

targeting bugs that i have to esc out and retarget the mobs (that i honestly cannot deal with as a wizard).

So i guess you can say that im wondering what can be done with the server up and when it needs to be taken down. Can none of these bugs i reported be fixed ?

Not that it matters anyways i think my time on green is pretty much up as i couldnt progress through the quest timeline smoothly.

I appreciate that you reported actual content bugs in other threads; they are now fixed and waiting for a patch. Bug reports involving newbie content are not common due to most players powering through lower levels. For you personally it might be too late, but everyone following the same steps in the future won't experience the same issues.

Regarding the weather, after reviewing test logs, it should soon function much better. The frequency and duration of weather events feels okay on development, but still might need further tuning. I'll leave that for feedback after the patch.

Thanks.

Perhaps a single thread which has a very short summary of issues that were addressed over time could help.

It would help players see the work you put in.

As developers make changes, we add them to an internal changelog which is posted publicly when a patch occurs.

If you want to see individual changes and the most commentary, it is best to read them in the bug report where the issue was resolved.

i.e. Click my forum name, then click Statistics, then click Find all posts by nilbog (https://www.project1999.com/forums/search.php?do=finduser&u=3).

not sure if this one has been fixed or the druids are at work because i notice a significantly less amount of rain and thunder and because of the variety of lvls of mobs i was able to stay in the same zones.

There is a thread on how to turn it off, don't have the link, you just have to modify a config file.

the last week or so has been pretty bad for this.

i even have several screenshots from players who are complaining because of this.
