1. He says that he got a dopamine fix after each video or book and went and spent more money on another right away. Which is him projecting his addictive personality issues onto others and assuming others are like that. What I did after watching motivational videos is cleaned, or worked out, or something else productive. I didn’t whip out my wallet and buy another self-help book off Amazon. Maybe this dude might want to look into a mood stabilizer for mania symptom, reckless spending is part of it

2. He says that the books and videos teach us how to trick ourselves that we are making progress when we really aren’t. Just because the author of this video is too dumb to use a tangible way of measuring progress, doesn’t mean other people are. I measure progress by how much faster or stronger I’m getting, how much I’m accomplishing around the home, how many dates or social events I can set up in a month. He said he’d make a list and not do anything on it and trick himself that that’s progress. No, that’s you being gullible and stupid when it comes to your progress metric

3. He says self-help gurus want you to feel inadequate to make money off you. Sorry bro, but complacency IS stagnation. This is just how our bodies work. We are built to move and accomplish things, and if our body doesn’t do that, IT DOES GET WORSE. You are either getting better, or you are getting worse at everything, the only thing that varies is how quickly. There is no such thing as staying the same at anything, that’s not how life works

4. He says hustle culture, where you have to be productive 100% of every day creates physical and mental burnout. Duh bro. Maybe it’s that this author is naive, but this is common sense. This is why the best diets have cheat meals. This is why self-care breaks are crucial for mental health. No “guru” worth a shit is going to say never ever rest. I consider that the best example of what not to add to a MMORPG. Expansions can and do permanently change games but an in-game player-controlled event never should. And no major MMORPG since has done it so that's good.

The number one feature of a MMORPG is how static and unchanging the world actually is. There are clever uses of instancing that can "change" the world for players as they progress through quests but nothing any one player can do will forever change the game for another player. It's not good MMORPG design and I'm happy only Everquest has made that mistake lol.

When I was a kid (before EQ came out), my friends and I would play this small Korean MMO called "Nexus: Kingdom of the Winds".

It's like an asian themed Runescape.

Anyway, my IRL friend is sitting there messing around trying to guess people's passwords (your character's name was your username to login).

He ends up guessing 'ssap'. Or 'pass' backwards and gets in someone's account.

We try it on another character - we get in theirs as well.

We find out it's actually some sort of universal password for all accounts.

So we use it to log into the GM's character. The GMs on Nexus are just like they are on EQ. There's only a handful, they have special abilities, and whenever they appear in game they draw a massive crowd of people.

Now this game had a corpse run feature much like EQ does. Only worse. If you left your corpse sitting there for awhile, other players were free to loot all your stuff.

So we log into the lead GM's account - we try and hide ourselves, and we discover that the GM has the ability to summon in any item or mob in the game. So we're summoning in the most rare items in the game, hiding them in bushes and then logging into our mains and picking them up. After we gave ourselves pretty much everything, we go to the most populated area and we proceed to summon in these quest mobs which are unkillable and one-hit anything it attacks.

There's chaos and dead bodies everywhere. It was amazing.

We ended up getting caught because our extremely rare gear gave us away. It would be like seeing a level 1 warrior with gear from The Sleeper or something. Near impossible to get. So we all get banned.

Then my parents get a phonecall at midnight. The guy had a thick Korean accent tells my dad that I'm guilty of credit card fraud, etc.

It was funny. Then they had an event where they killed off the GM character and made it seem like he "went crazy".
