My workplace is about 90% liberal (behavioral health) and interestingly enough, the last report said only 35% of workplace has gotten the vaccine. We have a significant amount of black employees, only one of which has told me he trusts the vaccine enough to have gotten it (two others I’ve worked with said they didn’t)

Rather than fire people for not having it like Banner hospital is doing, my work is doing a raffle where you enter by submitting your vaccine card with a chance to win $2,500. Not sure if this is going to do anything to increase our % of vaccinated employees

The interesting negative about religion (I’m not very religious but was raised Christian/Lutheran with regular church etc and still occasionally go to church with friends and family), is that when religions become orthodox/fundamentalist, basically the extreme practice version of these religions, they do start to become oppressive, and in very similar ways. One very common similarity is the patriarch seems to gain more and more power and importance, women tend to lose more rights, there often is more abuse especially of women and children. You hear about some of the same fucked up shit happening in Warren Jeffs fundamentalist FLDS compound as you’d hear about in places with sharia law

dude I was at a bar/restaurant 2 or 3 weeks ago and struck up a conversation with a girl who had nice eyes. Well she was wearing a mask, whatever no issue. Then we sat down and had a light meal with our drinks. She took off her mask and her teeth were so fucked up I nearly spit out my beer. I live in a city of about 65,000 people. Our largest hospital hasn't had more than 3 simultaneous covid cases where hospitalization was required, and that doesn't even mean they died they just needed a bed, and it's a relatively red area where lots of people ignore masking rules, and many businesses allow them to, and I can only imagine the rate of vaccine hesitancy is higher.

I know it's an anecdote, but unless I live in some kind of magically-protected area, it really doesn't seem to be a major threat.
