So, character naming rules are still in effect on Green as far as I know. I get that people don't really care about it that much, and sure, whatever, name your character Twitchin Aint'Ez (some staff member approved this, I do not know why) or whatever.

But I draw the line at 'Daredevilx'.

Something needs to be done. This cannot stand. This is an outrage

There are clearly a lot of players who don't care, and the staff are clearly busy enough not to be able to do much about it at this time. Maybe someday there will be another name purge like there was on Blue in 2018. There was quite the backlash.

Really, though, you should just be grateful that the server is active and populated. I'd rather group with Xxdarthmaulxx than sit LFG all night. Look at it this way: they're the ones whose P99 identity is tied to their joke name. Of course, you could always personally discriminate against the non-elf-name crowd. Who knows, maybe you'll start an RP revival. Maybe the devs should spin off an RP-only server where you and 20 other like-minded "friends" can log in and pretend to be dudes pretending to be other dudes before you inevitably go OOC in discord anyways. It'll be like Red 2.0. P99 Black - because only the dark pit of discontent in your heart could make you care this much about elf names. (Actually, we can't call it "Black" after the whole DMO incident, let's open up the floor for more sensitive name suggestions.)

Well, the point was that it's a real surname that sounds very necromancer-y. Also if they allow "murder" in names but not "kill" that would be even stupider. Arbitrary rules like that make me just want to pick a funny illegal name instead.

I mean it's obvious they don't care when half the BotB winners have infringing names and the GMs just give them titles. I know that's not really the right forum to make them change. My point is they are clearly aware of their existence and do nothing to enforce their "rules".

Twitchin Aint'Ez was also given a GM-approved surname despite infringing the rules. To make things worse, he's not even a necromancer. If he was a necromancer I'd be okay with it, but because he's not, I feel incredibly angry just thinking about him

There's no rule that says you can't have kill in your name. Are you sure it wasn't some other reason?

It's not listed as a rule, but it will always be rejected. I.e. I type /surname Killingsworth, hit enter, get message that this name is not allowed. I petitioned that it should be allowed, but, per guidelines, they "will not give you a name that has been rejected".

To test whether "kill" is the trigger I tried to make a new char named something like Killadfigadofgij and no matter what random string of letters it's always rejected.

15. The Project 1999 Naming Policy

Character names in EverQuest should be thematically consistent with the high-fantasy environment of EverQuest. These guidelines apply both forenames and surnames, and also to the combination produced by a forename and surname. (For example, the first name Clint and the last name Eastwood are both acceptable names separately, but Clint Eastwood is not.)

The server staff can, in accordance with all described rules and ultimate discretion, provide assistance with surname changes, including names with multiple capital letters and/or a single accent grave (`). Examples of this are Kirn V`Last, Harl McTarnigal, Leeza MacTeagan.

The server staff will be happy to change your surnames on request, however we will not provide forename changes unless the name violates the naming policy.

The following names are considered unacceptable.

- Vile, profane, rude, or racist names including common swear words, anatomical references, racial slurs, and homonyms of these words.
- Combinations of words that produce an offensive result (e.g. Hugeazz, Tug Mcgroin).
- Names of religious, occult, or significant historic origin (e.g. Jesus, Allah, Satan, Stalin).
- Copyrighted or trademarked names of products, characters, services, or concepts (e.g. Bigmac, Marlboro, Sony).
- Names from popular media. These names can be either fictional (e.g. Rambo, Darthvader) or non-fictional (e.g. Garth Brooks, Pierce Brosnan, George Washington, Michael Jordan).
- Common words and phrases that would not be found in the time, place and setting of EverQuest (e.g. Switchblade, Phaser, Toaster, Cannabis).
- Proper names from EverQuest (e.g. Rathe, Karana). This also includes the first or last name of any significant EverQuest NPC (e.g. Dorn, Trumpy, Karn).
- The names of past or current Customer Support Representatives or developers of Project 1999 (e.g. Nilbog, Rogean, Llandris, Eunomia).
- Names chosen with the intent or possessed with the effect of harming the reputation of a player or Customer Service Representative.
- Forenames containing titles within them, such as, but not limited to: The, Lord, Lady, Master, King, Knight, Sir, Father (e.g. Sirtallon, Lordeagle, Mothermaggy, Darksister).
- Names that contain sentences (Ikillorcs), phrases (Ontop), or two or more words that do not form descriptive compound words (Petcarbob, Diediedie and Tablechair).
- Descriptive compound words are allowed in first names and are encouraged in surnames (e.g. Treehugger, Giantslayer).
- Descriptive compound words (each separate part of the word and the entire word) must otherwise adhere to all other naming rules.
- Fantasy-oriented names which are easily recognized from popular existing media (e.g. Merlin, Gandalf, Drizzt).
- Names where the combination of the first and last name forms a phrase or violate a previous rule (e.g. Crymea River, Bran Muffin, Story Thyme).
- For all of the above, misspellings and alternative spellings (such as spelling it backwards) of the word or words are also unacceptable.
- For all of the above, any foreign variations are also unacceptable. If a player petitions a name he or she feels is offensive in a foreign language, all rules set forth shall be applied.
- Above all else, you may not choose character or guild name which, in the sole and absolute discretion of the Project 1999 Customer Service Staff, is deemed to be offensive or improper.

I'm sometimes a stickler about EQ names, but Killingsworth seems fine to me. And it definitely does not violate any of the rules. The word "Kill" in it isn't used as a verb. Killingsworth is not like Ikillorcs at all. Killingsworth is more like Pennysworth or Woolworth.

I don't think your name matters that much. You're on Blue, which is the fake, not real classic everquest server, so you're safe.

Even the original developers were having fun with names. The creative play on words for names has always been part of the game. Yes, some are dumb and try too hard. But I do appreciate some of the creativity as long as it isn’t crude, vulgar or disparaging. Seeing someone named “Twitching Aint’ez” doesn’t ruin my game experience. It shouldn’t ruin anyone’s really.
