I think it's a fun idea! It's an opportunity for folks who play more casually than the top tier guilds to see some new stuff! Whethet they get loot out if it or not it's fun and something new imho.

I still hope to see some of these places one day. I was the same, kind of looking on from the outside in awe back in the day.
I finally reached my first 50+ character about a week ago and finally experiencing some of those epic fights and places of legend seems like it could be within sight, if not for the cutthroat competition of the server. I speak of Green of course but based on what I have read it's much the same on Blue. At this rate I'm not really sure there's any hope there.
I think some sort of system to open it up a bit more to average joes not in these giant harsh zerg guilds, and make everything less stressful all around would be pretty cool honestly. Instancing, a rotation, anything. But apparently that makes me a dirty commie or something. It's still a dream to one day see Innoruuk in person before I die.
Oh well, I'll shut up and go back to farming leather padding or something, lol.

Perhaps instead of sitting on the sidelines and hoping you may one day see something cuz someone let you. Why don't you insert yourself into the game and go after the goals you have. Asking for help is fine. People can say yes or no. However I wouldn't expect people to roll over just to let you "experience" content. Most of them worked their asses off to get to the point in the game they are at. Wanting instancing is like playing single player games, and if that's your thing go for it. there are plenty of instanced emulators/servers/games out there. The same can be said about life outside of games. Don't expect a handout. if you get one what's the catch? Best to go do your best and then you can hold your head up and say you tried and kept trying and didn't give up. Who knows you might just succeed, and that's where true self worth comes from. Accomplishing things you set your mind to and persevered through.

The cutthroat competition that we have on p99 did not exist on live servers. It's 100% a construct of this server alone and in no way represents classic everquest. Most servers had a single dominant guild and/or a CSR enforced rotation on most content. Raid mobs would often sit up for long periods of time. Hope this helps.

I can't speak for all servers, of course, but I believe this was the situation on The Rathe. Blood of the Spider was far and away the dominant guild, and I believe it was Frayed Knot and a zerg guild (who's name I don't remember) were second tier. We definitely had rotations for stuff.
That said, I wasn't very tuned in to the raid scene so I'm not 100% certain.

Everyone knows who would win in a contest between the botb from project1999 versus the botb from the year 1999, or rather the worst of the worst. The same underlying ambition would have been there back then, but stymied by technology and playtime. Name the guilds that were running around with an arsenal of soulfires at the ready or the guilds that were hooping down bosses in Plane of Sky.
This server's raid community has had the benefit of time to perfect tactics to a t, with an unfair advantage against NPCs designed decades ago, to the extent where it has been viewed as exploitive and fixed. Having had these classic advantages taken away meant having to search for new ones to gain any advantage over the competition, from TMO and on, and probably long before then too.
There is no comparing our learned behaviors to those of the distant past. We have unlimited character slots to make alt armies. We have OBS to show new guild members all of the how tos. We have laptops with WiFi, so we can play from anywhere. The one thing we don't have? A long list of servers or players to populate them, so that if we can't get along, we aren't stuck with each other. Green server helped.

People were absolutely not gathering raid forces within 5 minutes or less of a mobs pop back in 1999 lol. It would take longer than that to even fire up their pagers to alert each other if the most hardcore of players were that committed.

<White Men of Faydwer> can't jump. Also, that really isn't a great analogy. Grand Prix racing would be better, since cars in 2020 perform much better than in 1894. Seatbelts weren't a feature back then, therefore we shouldn't be required by law to buckle up today!

Monaco Grand Prix is no fun even if you’re winning. (https://www.racefans.net/2021/05/27/no-fun-to-be-had-in-monaco-grand-prix-even-if-youre-winning-says-hamilton/)
Lewis Hamilton says he wouldn’t have enjoyed a “boring” Monaco Grand Prix even if he’d finished higher than seventh.
“I’m glad the race is over because it was the longest race,” he said. “It was so long. I’ve been saying it time and time again, it doesn’t matter what position you’re in, this track is just not fun to race on. Because you don’t see any overtaking, you can’t follow.”

Wanting instancing isn't the same as wanting single player. It's just wanting a more cooperative experience.
I just don't have that competitive fire inside me. You're talking to someone who left cobalt scar right now because I was afraid of stepping on the toes of other quad kiters there. It's a new zone to me and I was afraid of messing up and screwing over other people. I'd rather live in harmony with other players. Even if I somehow mustered the will to try and "crush" the opposing side, that wouldn't feel good to me, because I know I just made another person feel bad. It is what it is.
I do plan on playing here for years though, and I still have plenty of learning and growing to do here, being only level 52 with plenty of goals in mind. I will hold out hope that an opportunity to experience some stuff and earn some loot that can't just be bought in the tunnel will present itself one day.

Well not necessarily -- i assume you didnt play here during the plane of sky raids so many years ago, where the overtuned mobs were too much for any guild using normal tactics -- so what happened? mage pet mass tanking.
While i agree that amassing tools is beneficial, alot of the mobs are unclassically tuned, resists work improperly (mob level seems to be a major factor here compared to classic live) and any raid mob with a proc AE (frontal cone style etc) is completely different from how they worked on live E.G. sontalak, zlandicar, etc.

Ver true, tactics have evolved as the server has moved forward with development. It feels more like the test server in that way. But it's still more or less the same beast, only now without any of the teeth or claws from way back when. That the mobs have more to them in classic is probably for the best, all things considered. Personally I wish they had even more, different abilities patched in without notifying players, and changed periodically, just to keep everyone guessing, unsure what challenge the next spawn would present. The worse players were to each other, the harder the mobs would be. All custom made by staff. As is, quakes and trains add an element of surprise, and the occasional player new to raiding.
