They owed me this money for like 4 years and just now paid me back for the first time because they got their Stimulus, but they are still poor as hell and I feel like they need the money more than I do.

Should I give it back? Like they proved that they weren't just being greedy by not paying me, and I feel extremely guilty right now because I know they are poor and have kids, and I'm single and fairly well off financially.

That's a mug that my aunt from California gave me like 10 years ago... I dont know why but it makes coffee taste better than normal mugs do. I think it's the weird V shape? The coffee itself was like Sam's Club brand.

How does it feel to live off the government?
you claim to have military service, this is likely your monthly allowance from them.

I've pretty much always worked even though everyone who was in my unit is on 100% PTSD disability. I know I'm eligible for it because the VA already told me I am, but I have too much pride to do something like that. I'm a young, able-bodied man who can work, even if I have crippling depression and anxiety. I also was blessed with high intellect which allowed me to invest in GPUs for mining before the craze started, and I've been fairly successful with trading stocks (2021 has been bad for me so far, but I'm still up over 300% thanks to NNDM and BNGO -- since then I've been in dead money because I bought CCIV at $30 a share, and bought some more at $25 a share).

I'm also fortunate to have inherited 4 rental properties and a large house to live in.

Like financially I am probably doing better than most of my friends, and I'm a very non material person so it does feel bad to take from others who probably need the money more than me. I can have $150K in the bank, another 150K on my trading platform, 50K in my crypto wallet and still live like a homeless person.

Most people can't do that.

First off, you should take your disability. Pride has nothing to do with it, you earned it for your service so take your money. Hell donate it to a veterans charity if you feel like you're above the money but you're wasting it by not taking it.

Second, you definitely have some TBI at least because flashing a couple hundred bucks in cash in some shitty strip club to impress elves shows some definite signs of TBI.

Well, at the time they were saying that I was too dangerous to be allowed to work as a Paramedic, that my "PTSD" would get someone killed. Um, it was the opposite. My first few calls the other guys on the scene thought I was a seasoned veteran of EMS because of how calm I was... reality is, when I was deployed I responded to car bombings that killed dozens of people, having to deal with a broken leg was no big deal... at all.

So it was really offensive to be doing well in college, and doing well in my EMS work, to have a doctor at the VA tell me that I couldn't do that type of work that I needed to spend the rest of my life on disability. I actually sought help originally because I just didn't feel right, I felt like I was insane or something, and I didn't used to feel like that.

And I for sure had a TBI, but it doesn't prevent me from being able to work. In a lot of ways my PTSD and TBI made me a better person because they mellowed me out a lot. Before I was really arrogant and hateful. Now I go out of my way to avoid conflict and to help other people when I can.

I'll never go back to the VA hospital again personally, and consider myself lucky to live nearly 100 miles away from the closest one because they actually did try coming to my house when I first got out and refused to go back.

The shittiest part is, even with my own insurance I can't go to a private doctor to get treatment for PTSD. When I tried they told me they can't treat it and that I have to go through the VA hospital for service-related injuries.

I dont know what the relevance of that screenshot is, no VA hospital is going to commit you to a ward unless your suicidal and then its probably best for you to be held there and cared for.

As far as living 100 miles away from a VA hospital, thats great, you can get seen by a civilian provider without having to go to the VA hospital. It's really not hard

Of course this has nothing to do with you not getting the money from your disability sooooo...

I'm doing everything I can to prepare for the future honestly, I invest in silver and gold, crypto, stocks etc.

Don't get me wrong it would be awesome to get real treatment for PTSD and to just feel normal again (which is why I originally went to the hospital in the first place), but it's not realistic. Anyone from my generation who served is completely aware that there is no help at the VA, and going there just adds fuel to the fire. I've gotten to the point where I've learned to live with it and honestly I don't even think about it that much anymore, the anxiety is always there, but before my PTSD was on a different level, like 24/7 flashbacks, not sleeping for days at a time, getting in fights with random strangers over nothing etc.

They asked if I ever had suicidal thoughts, and I answered yes, because I genuinely did. The next thing I know the doctor leaves the room and a bunch of security guards swarmed me. Like that's not exactly going to want someone with mental health problems really want to come back for help.

Also at the time I didn't really understand what was happening with my brain and I didn't think I had PTSD, I just thought where I had been in a country where no one spoke english and people were trying to kill me had caused me to have a weird reaction when I came back to the states and that they could give me a pill for a couple of weeks and it would go away.

Like I would actually get upset when they tried to say I had PTSD and would even attack family members when I found out that they had told other people that I had it.

I had seen friends when I was deployed have complete nervous break downs so bad that they got sent home early, and seen other friends sob uncontrollably and eventually commit suicide. This was while I was still in. I saw those people as the ones who had PTSD. To me I just had a weird condition where I was super nervous and having flashbacks all of the time, I didn't think it was PTSD.

I’m not 100% sure because I’m only 50% disabled and it was a decade ago when I last dealt with my VA claims or looked at the pay chart but I’m fairly certain 100% disability pays nowhere near 65k a year. I get $850 a month which is a nice little bonus but doesn’t even cover the mortgage.

Now, if you meant to say their pension pay (if they retired with at least twenty years) combined with their 100% disability pay that would be closer to accurate.

As to your moral dilemma. I assume your friend is an honorable. That’s why he repaid the loan. It would be insulting to him to try and give it back. More valuable than returning the money would be to have a BBQ with him or help him with a project. Maybe you will each take from it something much more valuable than money.

Best wishes,

Lee.

I don't actually know what he makes off of disability, I just remember he was homeless and one day he checked his account balance and was shocked to see where the VA had back-payed him months (maybe years?). He had enough money to buy a house and pay for it in cash, and it feels like he's really financially stable now despite not working at all. I could ask him how much he makes... if y'all really want... hehe.

If I was honest with the VA it would cost me big money and I would be put in a civilian hospital where some dumb lazy nurse ratchet would just do me harm..

Because for all the money the VA has they cannot actually do anything or have the facilities. Granted, I'm not a combat veteran. But, I have been down that road.

If you're a vet. Sign up. Get your money. Get your pension. Put it to good use. But, yeah. We still mess people up bad.

Yeah, every time someone shares the suicide hotline on facebook they tag me in it simply because of my Military service. My foreman also told me they had a meeting about suicides after two employees killed themselves and that my name came up as the next person to watch out for based solely on my veteran status.

I probably won't ever do it, but one of my friends lost hearing in both of his ears from a roadside bomb going off during my first deployment. I actually thought he was faking, I really did... he had to wear these goofy hearing aid things.. which looked weird on a 19 year old.

I talked to him for the first time in 15 years recently on facebook and asked him if he still had to wear those things... implying that maybe he healed over time (because again, i always thought he was faking)... turns out he's now completely deaf and wasn't faking after all. I feel kind of bad, but I never outwardly accused him of faking... even though I think several of us talked about it behind his back and how it was bullshit that he got a purple heart for that... (someone else died in the explosion, so we saw it as insulting to that person)..

Here's what you do. This will be kinda fun and make you feel good.
Get yourself a stack of sticky notes, write on them "Yes, I am a stranger and I wanted you to have this. Have a nice day" Fold each 20 in half and put one of the sticky notes on it.
Then go around your town giving 20s to people.

Can you do this, but with just the sticky notes?

They obviously wanted to pay you back. Keep the money or it's an insult.

I understand all your feelings, mate. But, this I live, and we can't do something about that. We also have to live and overcome some challenging situations. So you have to be strong in all. I try to overcome such feelings by gambling. When I play poker, I got very relaxed. You can also try this method of forgiving life problems. You can find on W88 (https://linkw88moinhat.com/) the best poker rooms. Usually, I spend there 5-6 hours per day thinking of life problems and at the same time trying to win some money for the family. It's a good activity.
