What made y'all's server unique?

On Tunare the auction zone was GFAY. Don't ask me why because I don't know. It just was and I never really questioned it before. I didn't know this was weird until I played on P99. I was really confused by how dead GFAY was the first time I went there on P99 and just assumed there must be less than 20 people playing the game since I was a gnome and hadn't seen many players in Steamfont either.

Raiding Guilds weren't really a thing for most of Tunare's history (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=242219&postcount=44). I know someone will dispute this, but anyone who really played on Tunare and is honest will tell you that you did not need to be in a guild to raid. I got full Skyshrine and my Epic while guildless during a time period where the items were still BIS (although at that time people considered Kael to be better than SS).

Tunare was one of the only servers where players had full Lustrous Russet. They didn't actually loot these items. Kaylum, for instance, was "gifted" full Lustrous Russet, along with other items, for "helping" GMs.... I later found out that he was in fact a GM himself, and likely gifted himself the items. (https://i.imgur.com/MhByFPE.png) He later went on to be the first player to acquire a Kunark epic... coincidence? Maybe. However, unlikely.

All of those classic EverQuest songs that were trending 20 years ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8GPTAAjC18)? They were recorded by a guy on Tunare known as Richardo Xavier.

Tunare also had the first and only Epic item. It was before the other epics were added to the game. The player's name was "Musk." (https://i.imgur.com/d6Sw3CB.png) He later went on to become a successful billionaire after starting a company known as Paypal, and later Tesla.

Now that I'm older I wonder if they were GMs or something and wanted to avoid playing on a normal server?

And yeah, I actually liked GFAY as an auction zone more. Could teleport and make deals at Wizard rings, get wolf form to access bank etc. Having to run from the Tunnel to Neriak or NFP is a pain in the ass when you are encumbered.

Also just a more exciting zone with Crushbone, Mistmoore, Unrest etc. nearby.

I don't think most people raided current content even on live servers, fam. That's one thing about EQ, it was so hard that most of my friends weren't even level 50 before Velious came out, and I remember Planar gear still being considered good even after Velious dropped.

Players didn't digest content fast back then. You see the same thing happen with WoW Classic and TBC when it came out. The average player never completed the end-game content before the next expac came out, so the wait for the next expac didn't feel bad like it does now, where players on retail WoW are expected to farm the same content they already beat for 2 years before the next expac drops.

And yeah, the wipe is what turned me off on Test. I actually thought very seriously about playing there because of how charitable the players were until I found out people lost entire characters and stuff like that.

The wipe was rough, but also sort of bracing for most of the community. Lot of casters came together to gear up melees etc.

Bertoxx had <Phantrom Raiders> and <Prophecy> , I remember when I would be exp'ing in Nro, and all of a sudden a UBER wizard from one of those two guilds would port in, they had gear I never saw (I remember seeing my first carmine robe, I was 11 years old and seriously impressed).

I could barely speak english, so I ask in broken english that wizard where that robe came from (it wasn't even on Graffe's then...)

He said it dropped off "hands creatures" in a area south from Ro, where it "rains blood" and you must go through a "strange portal".

GFay was the trading zone for the light races too. Much better than the tunnel really with access to a Bank.

My main was Valaman a DE cleric, who'm I raided GoD, OoW, some sporadically up till TSS. Then I had Xurlibik a gnome wizard who only saw a little PoP. Early on I rerolled Dimmak, Xurlibik. And Flayzernax names over and over and I don't think I tried to hit 50 until after/testbuff when I finally got picked up by some guild with wolves in the name and the guild leader lived in Texas or NV with his wife, I think they moved?, who'm I grouped with lots. Plus the only other persons I remember was a necromancer who eventually hated me for being such a child. A mage I was best bros with. But can't remember. And a druid named Spyder I probably had a crush on. There were a pally and sham I grpd with a bunch. And a bunch more interesting people I vaguely remember. One guy used to box a dwarf main and like 10-12 other characters on his own mini raids.. some halfling druid I followed around a lot who begrudgingly tolerated me.. There was two guilds with a pretty good rivalry, I was not in primal brood or whatever it was.

I was in The Ministry of Anarchy or choas or whatever until I got kicked out and pretty much permabanned, shunned from Berlin.

I think I used to talk to a wizard, necro friend duo from Prophecy a lot.

Yall probably don't remember me, but I remember these half elves humping, bumping xurlibik up against the walls lol. I was that wizard who nuked first :p

The first time I saw Lambent armor in the game I immediately re-rolled as a Bard. To my child-mind that goofy looking bright blue armor was arguably the coolest thing in the entire game and I was kicking myself for not making a Bard from the start. Of course I didn't have the attention span to actually level a character passed level 10 before re-rolling.

I played on Tallon... if I recall the factions was small races - elves - evil races - hum, bar, erudite?

I was a gnome myself, and I remember these insane battles at the zone lines to and from LFAY. Dozens if not hundreds of gnomes and elves slaying each other. It was the most exciting thing I had ever seen, I remember screaming the first time I killed someone.

Gnomes were actually kind of OP too in the early stages of that game because think about it, we had scarab armor and a monopoly on the minotaur axes. Mino axe might seem like a bad item in 2021, but against a non-twink, you are literally one shotting people with that thing.

We should make a peaceful server. We're u like hail mobs and gain their faction and you can trade items to npcs to get quest drops.

So u would start out at lvl 60 but u would do like fishing and begging and pottery to vendor dive for stuff like rat ears, and like Vulak would like pixie sticks for his loots.

Was also notious for a reign of terror for awhile, killing every level or anone grouping with them that didn.t legitly earn level 50 lwhen they introduced the eventual tallon/vallon zek "faction/race" wars or whatever they called it for a month or two.

It's worth mentioning that "Club F U" should have had their name replaced by the Verant staff, and in fact at one point they threatened to do just that.

However, a small percentage of the guild was Chinese-American in real life, and that subset managed to convince the staff that "Fu" their name was really referring to the Chinese character for good luck (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fu_(character)).

Not wanting to offend anyone, Verant staff backed off ... and the (again, mostly white IRL) guild was able to keep their "F U" title.

Ya, believe it or not but daman was only my third highest prioritize character at that time. the reason i was able to levelup so fast is all the tricks/knowledge ihd from beta. Khay didn't play in the beta, but i was constantly giving him advice and telling him where/what to hunt at certain levels.

khay came from UO, just like me, but he came with a pack of friends like Thea Bane( gnome necro), who was a piece of shit and whose guts I hated because of some of the bullshit things she did/said about me.

Now at least im glad i can point to this thread when any dumb cunts don't think I know about classic EQ when I fucking WAS classic EQ.

Wolf/wulve/wulf whatever his name was a barbarian warrior, i believe the first 50 war on the server. he played a lot with sidious, karleigh/tonia, and i do believe his wife also played a babarian shaman. He ran around a lot with a bard too early in test server's life, i forget her name but was a wood elf. Damn good bard,.

I was on Tunare as well. I was in Northern Cross and the guy who made the eq songs, Ricardo, was the guild leader. Him and his girlfriend had like a full blown wedding in the Arena and it was the creepiest thing ever. Good times.

Rallos.Zek server used Gfay as well for auctions. Also was a guild called The Tinkers and was only mages and clerics. My memory may be wrong but may have been gnomes only as well.

Only server where you could get killed and lose all your pp and one droppable item. Was rough. 4 lvl pvp limit.
